Placed my deposit in early 2016 and my allocation came through early Feb but I pulled the plug last week. I had to notify them in writing of my reasons (and the way I was asked to do that suggested it is happening regularly and BMW are trying to collate the reasons for the cancellations). The "excitement" from my dealer felt forced and false to me and when I declined my allocation he didn't seem surprised - quite dejected but it seemed more than just the loss of commission. Quite a few have been pulling out due to the daft price (£82k with Ceramics) and lack of specialness! To be a proper Club Sport they should've ditched the rear seats and had a simpler lighter suspension set up. What they've settled for is essentially just throwing in the M4 engine and a few carbon bits and priced it against the Porsche GT4 (which is in another league altogether). My dealer has always been very, almost deliberately vague about UK numbers and wouldn't put it in writing and 2200 world wide is not a rare enough car to support the premium price (for a BMW). Nonetheless, I'm sure it will be an awesome car! I may buy one next spring when they're sub £60k (or be crying into my beer when they're changing hands for £100k........) Who knows......

My view is the M2CS will lose money initially but residuals will be ok over the long term and then possibly rise again. This is the closest variant to the 1M with a manual gear box a purist car with over 445BHP in this small frame an improvement over the already outstanding M2C it should be some car, a drivers car, possibly a collectors car in time..Obviously the reviews will tell the real story but I’m expecting them to be 5 Star!
The M2CS' residuals will be interesting to watch. It's some £20K more expensive than the M2C whereas the 1M had a base price just under £40K making it the bargain M car of its time. The 135i was about £32K at the time? That extra 25% got you a significant step up the ladder; I'm not convinced the same can be said about the almost 50% more required to go from a M2C to a M2CS. But the market will decide.

You have some very valid points, however one important point missed there were 450 UK registered 1M in 2010-11 and there will only be 104 UK registered M2CS.
The very low numbers will help residuals and this car should become a desirable collectors item at some point due to its size and capabilities.

That “point” will be 20 years time.

Another issue is that the CS moniker isn’t even a one time thing anymore, it’s now a tier in M heirarchy, and the next gen M2/3/4 will also get a CS model.

This is what I find most disappointing about these "specials", great cars reduced to being garage queens is a criminal waste.

Any of the prospective M2CS owners planning on using theirs as a DD and/or tracking it?

Yep, that was what it was built for.

Hi,

I placed my deposit for a CS/CSL in August 2016 when I bought my F87 M2 and I have a build slot confirmed for July. This has moved forward from September - is anybody else currently having this conversation with their dealer?

I’ve gone for black, black wheels, DCT, Elec Seats, Ceramics.

Some interesting points raised on this forum. Cars are rarely investments but I was hoping that the limited numbers would stave off the horrendous depreciation seen with the M3/M4 CS. However, with corona virus now giving the global economy a good hammering there probably couldn’t be a worse time to buy!

Locked my M2CS down today. The Manager was genuinely very excited about a M2CS coming to there branch! Confirmed 104 UK cars only. They are convinced the car will be very special indeed.
LOL they are kidding of course. It will drop like a stone.

Has any limited edition BMW ever held it’s value?

The 1m and the CSL are all I can think of that didn’t seem to drop that much ever? E30 M3 and E28 M5 are now but werent always.

CSL certainly did depreciate before heading back up. So that might just be the 1M.

Timing will be poor for the CS but anyone not looking to flip it straight away hopefully won't be too badly affected

I have not had my Sept built slot moved forward. I’m happy with that so far as Sept suits me.

What are you thinking?

I think sticking with a September build is sensible, I certainly would not want mine to move any closer. Lots of uncertainty across all industries and BMW won't be immune as we have seen this week with Ferrari and Lamborghini downing tools for two months, it's unprecedented times.

Agree very challenging times and car purchases are secondary in everyone’s minds right now. Hopefully this will be over by mid summer.

Looks like production has stopped until mid April as minimum. Which probably means earliest deliveries are going to be June at the earliest.

Shame - the timing of this car could not have been any worse!

I think June is even optimistic. Wouldn't be surprised if they all get backloaded towards Autumn/Winter. Porsche had an emissions shut down a while ago creating a backlog and 'old' 991 gt cars were still being produced as 992 rolled out. Probably a good thing they are delayed. Getting a lease or finance in this market will be tough. In terms of timing, the funniest launch has to be the new Toyota Yaris GR....they opened orders just as the pandemic was announced and countries went into lockdown...some hard nosed marketing optimist lol!
