You ignore mileage and buy on history and condition.
Distance travelled really is no indicator of the quality of the car you're looking at with these and they will run on and on if treated properly.
Both of those mileages will rule collectors out of their resale so forget the odo reading, find the best one you can and enjoy it.
I would second this. I paid £8.5k over 2 years ago for a >100k mile car because it was simply the best one I'd seen. I saw a £11k car with 65k miles that was significantly worse, with the first clue being mismatched rear tyres, one Bridgestone and one ditchfinder because they had picked up a puncture were selling the car soon. That was indicative of how the car had been cared for once I'd dug a little deeper. I'd seen some rubbish at £8.5k even back then. The £8.5k car had just had £2k spent on it and the guy was selling because his pregnant wife had suddenly decided the car wasn't safe enough and it had to go. It was no brainer.Distance travelled really is no indicator of the quality of the car you're looking at with these and they will run on and on if treated properly.

As prices of the new one drop and the e90 drop the M3 will no doubt be on a high bubble at the moment. Soon the most expensive will be at 10k and others will be dropping to 5k.
A rise when the few good ones left become classics perhaps (10-20years time) but I think there will be quite a dip before that ever happens.

When I was looking for mine I only had two real stipulations : Not SMG and Not Silver.
I ended up buying a Silver SMG car because it was the 'right' car. After looking at loads from £6k to £10k there was so much variation that cars costnig £7k were MUCH better than cars costing £10k.
In the end I bought mine (even though it was the incorrect spec.) for £7k and it never skipped a beat.

Its definitely an odd market.
I've seen cars with 65k miles for £10k and cars with 100k miles for £9k and all manner in between.
I think some people are really chancing their arm and others are more realistic.
the question is, do you go for a £10k low miler or a £6k high miler?
People asking nearly 10k for 150k+ cars are on crack, I'd rather find the extra money for a V8.I've seen cars with 65k miles for £10k and cars with 100k miles for £9k and all manner in between.

Just missed a Cat D manual coupe, but again he wanted 6k, when 7 bought a non-cat car, I was happy to part with 5...

Any link?
I'd have bought the Truro car myself if hadn't missed it.
Its on Facebook on a selling page, won't be hard to track down, loads of us chasing it, so will see what happens, an elise I've been watching has just dropped in price so just playing the waiting game to see which seller comes back with the info I want first.I'd have bought the Truro car myself if hadn't missed it.

E46 market did indeed bubble upwards recently but it will be going down as the e90 and f10 come down, they are more desirable cars.

The subframe was checked by BMW at 49k miles when I bought it and was found to be faultless. They even commented that it is the perfect example of an E46 M3 and the best one they have ever seen, something which another ex-BMW M Certified Specialist Indy told me when I asked them to inspect it for me. I’ll get the subframe checked again before I sell it (probably in around March 16 and will put fewer than 500 miles on it between now and then) – but I know it’s fine.

Had it repaired last week and they found the two front mounting points were very bad, which BMW had not picked up on. But I think the subframe needs dropping to do check it properly.
Mine is done now so that is a weight off my mind (and a four figure sum off my bank balance )
