I think you have to be using the same ron petrol for a few tanks for the ECU to adapt to the different grade fuels.

I used to have an S2000 and you could really tell with that. There was much more of a kick on the VTEC with the super unleaded than the standard.

Nope, not just you! I've been reading this thread with increasing alarm. I thought I was fairly sensitive to car performance and set up in general - I used to do a lot of set up work for race teams - but I'm buggered if I've been able to sense any difference between any of the 'Super' grades in ANY of my cars. Even bunging in 95 if I've been stuck only seems to have had a very, very marginal effect (smooth running mainly) and even then only on a couple of cars.

The only thing I really notice (and this was the case in my E39 M5 and both the E46 M3's I've run) is the 'pinking' from the engine. On non-super, it is much more noticable around town...

Modern M machines are designed to 'cope' with 95 octane fuel but not designed to run on 95. If you drive a fully loaded ( 4 people and their luggage ) M car and use big throttle openings and/or travel uphill when using 95RON, you'd hope the ECU's knock sensors were working properly to sort the ignition timing, otherwise......detonation is likely nono

We should defer to the people who developed the machine and use 97RON ( or more ) if that's what's specified.
