Is the Z4M Coupe going to follow the Z3MC in price..?

I bought mine in October. As a buyer I'd of liked to of purchased at a lower price but after many months of looking it was apparent that the market was strong and nice ones would cost what the market was demanding. I could of got a higher miler/less nice one a bit cheaper but wanted the best I could afford so stuck to my purchasing parameters and got myself a mint Z4MC that I'm delighted with.
It may appear that traders are asking ott prices at the moment, but many people may of thought that 2,3,4 years ago when equivalent cars were relatively cheaper. Consider that these cars are the last ever full M Division, s54, lsd rear wheel drive manual models sold in quite low volumes, add to that stunning looks and raw driving experience and I think you have a recipe for appreciation.
Pay your money, enjoy and hope the market decides that it is, indeed, a future classic???

I sold mine about 9 months ago, i owned it for 2 years.
Bought it for 14.6k at 52k miles and sold for 15.5k at 68k. I really enjoyed the car, thought it was a real riot to drive and did make me behave like a bit of a numpty at times. Im not sure why.
My wife was actually really upset i sold it, i bought an Exige V6 as a replacement so all is not lost, although she hates it.
What i found when i was selling mine.... mine was a fairly desirable spec with one of the later cars with extended champagne leather so it would stand out.... it didnt sell at 17-18k it was advertised at for a while. In fact very few cars were actually selling, the market seemed to have the same old cars up for sale and had been for sale for a long time.
While the cars are up for sale at 18-20k, the question remains is, are they actually selling at those prices?
When i was following the market in the lead up to selling mine, many were not selling, and if they were, they were closer to what i sold mine for in the end.
Great cars and i enjoyed it..... it wasnt without its niggles and replacement parts though.

I think that as a buyer there simply arent many people out there willing to shell out 18k to a private seller where there is effictively little comeback . People with that kind of cash want the reassurance of buying from a so called reputable dealer [of which they are few about ] -its a pyscholgical thing I suspect for reassurance and piece of mind even though in reality its probably utter nonesense . That may in itself explain the large differential in price circa 5k between private and dealer prices . Having said that i would rather speak to and see the previous owner to get reassurance about how the car was looked after in detail ,because when you buy from a dealer aside from a service history book [which is meaningless] and perhaps some receipts ,youre kind of in the dark . I actually phoned the previous owner when i bought my Z4MR from a dealer even though it came with a beautifully organised OCD file of receipts . As it happens I was lucky that said owner was delighted to chat over the phone and went into detail about what had been done to the car in keeping with the OCD file -in fact he turned out to be a master mechanic at a BMW/Audi franchise -a real stroke of luck on my part .
I guess the axiom is that wherever possible you should always buy on condition and history -and if the dealer can't furnish the key facts then take the brave pills and simply walk away . And if you are that way inclined for peace of mind there is always the possibility of buying a 3rd party warranty like warrantywise or warranty direct .Thats just my own approach to 2nd hand car buying .....certianly not a prescription for how to do it in reality .

A dealer has a reputation to lose and can be dealt with by Trading Standards, etc.
Privately, caveat emptor applies in a BIG way.
By the time you have spent enough time and money on due diligence with a private buyer, you may as well have bought from a dealer, but most people aren't duly diligent.

I looked at a dealer M6 before I bought mine privately a few weeks later, the cars were pretty much identical but I didn't feel comfortable with the dealer and there was a slight whiff of bullst about him. I met the owner of the car I bought, liked him, felt good about the car and felt I could trust him enough to hand over £20K+ as everything he said was backed up by a piece of paper and a full BMW history. It cost me £1,100 to buy a Mondial warranty and a few quid for an HPI but I saved £4,000 on the price of the car.

I'd buy privately upto an amount I would be prepared to write-off. Above that, I'd buy the dealer premium.
You can get an RAC check to confirm the car's safety and you can do an HPI check.
You can take buy a warranty, but make sure that you read the small print.
