Question for those with M3's.

I've been to see a few so far. 1 was almost perfect, but it was missing EDC. The other was also almost perfect, but it was quite high milage.

What would you pick, a car without EDC or a car with it, but with more miles than you (ideally) wanted on it (say around 80k)?

Neither as you always think you had to compromise. The high miler you wont want to drive for fear of adding more miles and the lack of EDC will erk you. Hold out for the right car.

Fair enough reply! smile I'm not in any rush to buy at the moment.

Would ideally like a white 3dr coupe, auto, 09 onwards (updated iDrive) with EDC and under 70k miles. All for less than £18K! Not asking for much is it! biggrin

You never know. Assume you have added a wanted post to M3 forums? Always a good place to start.

Did you drive the non-EDC car?

Not had a chance for a 'proper' test drive yet... in any M3. the last one was a 5 min crawl around the block in traffic. sounded nice mind!

From what i've read it is a 'must have' hence my desire to get one equipped.

Was discussing one last week , 73k miles but exact colour / spec you want (plus CP) looking to be snapped up for 18,500£ Guy didn’t go for it , so it got traded to dealer ; over 20k£ now !!

Nah, go drive both and figure it out yourself. If you believe the forums you'd only ever buy an EDC, DCT, Comp Pack with Individual Audio. As I keep bleating on these cars are getting on a bit. Find a good original example with a solid history and no improbable stories. Consider the options bolted to it as a bonus.

No need for EDC imo. It’s just another button to mess about with and the hardest setting isn’t any good for the roads as it’s too stiff.

Mine has EDC and I wouldn't consider one without it.

The 'off' setting is much more comfortable around town, and on fast runs turning it on fully makes a huge difference to the feel of the car.

There is a reason it was a £1300 option when new!

Go drive one with EDC - the middle (one orange light) setting is a normal M3 drive and you can immediately feel that difference.

Drive both and decide for yourself.

Having owned 3 both with edc
(In 2007/2009) and driven one without , I d go for edc Everytime . What can be bad about having the flexibility ?

Also when selling both of mine a reoccurring question was whether the car was Edc equipped which demonstrated it was important to perspective buyers, admittedly that was nearly 10 years ago now.

Thanks for the replies.. i think i'm pretty much sold on having it. I plan on doing a few track days in the car per year so having the ability to firm up the suspension for the track and leave it soft for the speedhumps of S.London would be ideal!

Non comp pack edc is pointless. Sport is messy and crashy.

Comp pack EDC is totally different. Sport is useful and with the improved suspension comes better steering.

Buy one with comp pack or fit comp pack springs and have the edc coded with the comp pack.

Why do you say that? Mine is a non comp pack and the edc is useful. The middle, normal? mode is a little firm and choppy on less than perfect roads, but in comfort its softer and more comfortable. I have yet to really try the sport mode as I have only owned the car for a just over a month and the weather has hardly been good enough to really press on and explore the car in full sport. I did want a comp pack car, but given that the car is used for London commuting and general driving not just as a toy, I think that the lower ride height would be more of a pita and the small extra performance would only be noticeable and usable on a track.

Ditto, I have a non-comp EDC and use the Comfort setting with non-M mode and Sport setting with M mode - find them both very useful. The comp pack would make the car too low for the road humps in my locale in any case. There are a few (possibly poorly constructed illegal?) road humps that will catch the front lip if driven straight on - only found a few so far but sometimes you don't know until you hit them. If I only had Sport it would be okay - just it's nicer to pootle around in Comfort.

Yes, exactly, I caught the front lip on a curb at the end of a parking bay when parking in a supermarket, so having a car a further 10mm lower would just be more of a pita. Lets face it these cars are hardly under performing for normal road use, so that extra grip from the comp pack is by no means essential.

I have the comp pack springs and comp pack EDC on my Monte Carlo and it does catch on speed bumps.

The EDC comment... before I had comp pack EDC loaded I just thought sport was a useless mess. Comfort was fine but I rarely use it even now and just left it in normal mode which was good.

When Comp pack EDC was loaded it was totally different, Sport is really useful and as I said with the better suspension came better steering. The car really did change and not in a subtle way either.

I know people like to defend their cars but without the comp pack sport EDC was just terrible in my view. Comp pack sport is a huge improvement.

Is the comp pack edc just a software change? And can it be applied to non comp pack cars?

I’m sure I’ve read that somewhere.

Just read a few posts above and that is the case. I can imagine just the software update is enough as the springs are 10mm lower so if you want std ride height but improved edc then just the software will suffice.

Anyone local to this car / dealer? (Weeton, Lancs)

This is ticking all the boxes for me in terms of what i want.. however it is over 200miles away and a bit over my budget! Am ready to travel but just wondered if any local M owners had spotted it and thought wow / hmmmm / not bad etc.. or know the dealer as one to be trusted or avoided! biggrin
