Hi Richard - interesting you say some colours are ‘protected’. My car is Blue Hera and I had a small scuff on the bumper repaired by an independent I use for small repairs. He had issues getting the paint formula - so is Blue Hera one of the protected colours?

And out of interest, how many are there in Blue Hera?

Many thanks.
I don't think 'protected' means special colours, I think it means that the colour for that vehicle has been hidden so people can't find out what it is. I guess this may be wanted for a high profile customer maybe?

My figures give 2 RHD cars in Blue Hera.
Thanks Richard - interesting to speculate about those protected colours. Maybe the paint formula issue thing is more about individual colours in general.

And one of two, not quite unique, but rarer than a Ferrari red version!

It is my intention to contribute moving forward but until I actually pick up the car and become familiar with it, I'm not sure I can contribute anything worthwhile about it, hence my current questions. smile

Why did you want an M6GC?
What cars have you had in the past?

I've had company cars since 1995 but will be taking voluntary redundancy at the end of next month so have to return my current company car. I've had Rovers, Audis, one BMW and the last three have been Mercedes C Class. All have been diesels due to driving circa 25k miles per annum.

I've always liked the shape of the 6 series Gran Coupe and love the interior layout. As I plan to retire after taking redundancy, I won't be doing much mileage so thought I'd go down the M6 route as I always said I'd have a large petrol engine car one day.

congratulations on a great choice I'm sure you will love it and also well done on the retirement. We are all a long time dead but hopefully not until we have fulfilled our dreams. You can't take it with you.

Please put up some pictures when you have it I never tire of seeing these.

Good luck with it allthumbup

Congratulations! Time to plan a few road trips in retirement. The M6 is epic on a long trip and experiencing the acceleration on the autobahn well into 3 figures must be done.

I ticked one bucket list item in mine and drove down the Stelvio Pass. Amazing scenery although in truth the driving experience wasn’t quite what I had hoped because of a few slow drivers making the drive very sedate.

Enjoy the new car and let us know how you get on.

@ pjv, monthefish and Stever,

Thank you for your good wishes.

I'll post a some pics when I return from collecting it tomorrow. I suspect my MPG will take a big hit after the 35mpg I've been getting on my Mercedes diesels. frown

Pjv, are you able to comment upon what your M6 has from a theft deterrent perspective? Ghostwatch, Tracker, aftermarket alarm? I don't want to fall foul of the BMW insured warranty by having something fitted which will invalidate it.

I put Trackstar on originally which I recall was the BMW standard fit, but went direct to Trackstar as I saved a meaningful amount.

But after the initial three years I paid for, I didn’t renew as they wanted an exorbitant amount of money (IMO). As I value my car now below £60K, my insurance company doesn’t require it anymore, so I’m relying on just the standard factory immobiliser.

I have never bothered with trackers.

If my car got stolen, I wouldn't want it back personally speaking.

Good luck on the collection of your new car, you will 100% enjoy it!

Very informative thread, just wanted to ask if anyone knows some background in this AUC car:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108075...

Seems like a decent spec but on one of the idrive photos a service is flagged amber/late

09/08/2018 15242 miles OK - Green
06/02/2020 26144 miles OK - Amber

Would it be the time or mileage gap that was exceeded?

Either, depending on how it’s been driven/used, and the particular service it was late for… Oil, Microfilter, pads, brake fluid, vehicle check, etc

Those dates would suggest they couldn’t get it serviced mid Covid.

Thank you Richard, very much appreciated.

I am picking the car up on Thursday so will check the service history. However, the advert does state it has full BMW history including the 1200 mile running in service.

May I ask what M6 owners are using from a theft prevention perspective. My insurer has not insisted on a tracker so I was looking at having an Autowatch ghost or Pandora alarm fitted. However, having spoken to BMW insurance who I intend to take out the fully insured used warranty with, they have advised that interference with the vehicle wiring/Canbus to fit an aftermarket immobiliser or alarm will invalidate the insured warranty terms and conditions.
Regardless of wether you would consequently go for a ghost or pandora, I'd be asking BMW to put this in writing... because they won't. The same block exemption clause that allows non franchise servicing covers the aftermarket alarm/immobiliser systems.

Looking at previous threads, other PHer had their warranty invalidated by the fitment of aftermarket alarms/immobilisers...

Just make sure you're properly insured IMO. Any modifications open up a minefield of outs for the insurer, unless everyone understands exactly what has been modified.

Wow I’m staggered how dirty it is inside what an embarrassing advert. They have even taken close ups of the filthy interior. Seats are black, smears dust and dirt doesn’t present as a well looked after car and shame on the dealer to advertise it like that rolleyesrolleyesrolleyesrolleyesrolleyes

Apologies for the delay in posting the pictures. Having just washed it I've taken some quick pictures on my phone. Overall I'm pleased with the car. I love the light interior and the head up display. Not really explored its performance yet as I've been driving around in comfort mode which is more than adequate for me.

The drivers seat has a few wear marks on the seat which I plan to have sorted. It looked fine on my test drive but having just given the inside a clean it looks like the dealer or previous owner used a leather stain to hide the few wear marks which I've just wiped off with my leather cleaner. Also the drivers side heated seat has packed up. The three green lights come on when you press it but then go out immediately. I've had a friend read the fault code and it shows as 'Seat Module Driver SMFA'. he managed to reset it and the seat then worked fine. However, as soon as you switch off the power then restart the engine the fault returns. The dealer has said if I return the car to them they will sort it. Unfortunately it is a 286 mile round trip so I'm going to have to plan it for day when traffic is hopefully light.

There are some light swirl marks on it so I'm planning on giving it a single stage correction using Scholl S20 at some point. Also going to have the wheels off and give the insides a thorough clean before winter sets in. Any recommendations what to seal the wheel with?

The service reminder is stating a brake pad check is due in 3000 miles. Does this mean they will need replacing or are BMW over zealous in their warning lights? I'm assuming the warning is based on an actual depth wear sensor rather than time based?
