Bmw 1M prices holding strong!
Discussion
Hi Mic,
I have had mine now for just over a month. I didn't sleep much for a week from the moment I saw the car and placed a deposit with the dealer. I find any excuse now to jump into the car and drive it. Get used to positive comments, thumbs up from motorcyclists, a girl snapping up a quick pic and then pulling up next to you and saying " I want that as me next car", ogled from teenage boys , the occasional wannabe trying to race you and asked to rev the engine at traffic lights .
You will enjoy it , I promise but I can't guarantee any of the above ;-)
If the car is under warranty and they all should be( 3 year warranty) , you have nothing to worry about apart from the tyres really.
Buy it! drive it and enjoy it and when you have finished start saving for that Akropovic !

Agree, prices have held up extremely well so far. But there is competition from within BMW. Surely the IM has a proper LSD. http://www.bmwblog.com/2013/07/23/bmw-m235i-to-spo...

I'm pleased to tell you I collected one last week.
Congratulations Mic! Enjoy and do tell us your experiences with it. Makes for good reading. As for the M235i, of course BMW will try and capitalise on the name of the 1M and market this tidy M235i against the benchmark .They don't need to sell 1M's anymore but what they do need to sell is an abundance of M235i's. This is marketing propaganda at it finest. With the limited numbers of the 1'Ms, my personal opinion is that they will drop to a point ( around 22k to 25k) initially and then make their way back over time.
Like any car, enjoy what you bought. Before we know it ,the BMW M2 marketing will begin and the 1M will drop to £1000 ;-)

We've owned our 135i since before the 1M was even a twinkle in BMW's eye but I wish that the 1M wasn't a limited production car as that would have been THE car to buy at the time if it was available. Anyway, underneath (engine, suspension, trans) our 135i has been upgraded and is all M3/1M plus some more however, it remains with the understated M-Sport body kit without those big flared (lovely) arches of the 1M. I love the way that the 1M looks but it's not financially sensible for us to pay another £20k for a 1M which essentially only differntiates itself from our car only cosmetically.
Still, would I buy a 1M if they dropped below £30k? Probably , although I don't believe I could ever let go of this 135i which seems to imbed itself further into my heart every time I drive it, it's pure madness on wheels.
If you really want a driver's car with the driving pleasure of a 1M but cannot justify the price, I will happily give you a list of parts to turn a 135i into something more special than the 1M in that department. Sadly from a status POV the 1M will always trump it.
To get a 135i to where a 1M is mechanically you'll need...
- BMW PPK2 (remap, cooling fan, additional rad & air ducts)
- M3 Front & Rear Sway Bars
- M3 Front Control Arms & Tension Rods
- M3 Rear Subframe Bushings
- Quaife or Wavetrac Torsen Differential (although 1M uses plate type E9x M3 diff)
If you plan on opening the taps fully then skip the BMW PPK and opt for a proper custom remap, high flow & large bore downpipes, a more efficient intercooler and a free flowing cat-back exhaust. All of this should net you anywhere between 420 & 440bhp/450 - 470lb-ft.
As for your question regarding things to look out for on that 1M though, I would suggest listening for long crank times as this will indicated fuel pump or injector problems. Also rev the car and listen for a rattlesnake type sound while the rev drop back to idle as this will indicate loose wastegate pennies. The wastege issue is apparently fixed due to a revised design on late N54 engines but the potential is always there and it's an engine-out job to fix.

Suspension wise, would it then be the same as the 1m?

How much??? Wow! £44kIt was reported that the comment about the M235i being faster around the ring than the 1M by Klaus Froehlich was actually in reference to the M135i,hence the 18 inch wheels and tyres comment, that being said im sure there wont be anything in it much as there wasn't with the M135i,big surprises there then considering they are all roughly the same weight/power !
Personally I get really bored with the ring time fascination,it doesn't tell you much about the character of a car.
I doubt that the M235i will have a huge impact on 1M prices much as the M135i didn't,perhaps some but neither are its replacement and hence occupy a slightly different market place,if anything the M235i and M135i may impact upon each other.
Its a little like GT3's and GT3 RS's,both great cars, very similar in many ways and practically as fast as each other, just one is a little more rare and hardcore and sought after so prices stay stronger.
I think 1M prices will just keep falling gradually with age and mileage for a while yet to come, its limited numbers and reputation certainly contributing to its strong residuals.
I doubt any owner can be unhappy so far.
