Thanks for sharing. Not seen this before and really enjoyed it. Very sad to hear, but impressed with how honest Chris was about the social media abuse.

So, in the user manual, there is a paragraph claiming the M2C recovers energy on the overrun... anyone know how this works?
Is it just a function of the alternator turning like any IC engined vehicle, or is there some electrickery going on with the diff?
Just an alternator, yes.

There is a clutch on the alternator that is used to manage load on the engine and electrical power generation. If the battery is well charged and you request full throttle the clutch disengages putting less load on the engine. Then when you lift off it engages and uses the overrun to generate the electrical power.

Thanks; however, gets curiouser. The sales brochure for the M2C specifically lists ‘brake energy regeneration’ as a standard feature under BMW Efficiency Dynamics. Not sure how the clutched alternator links into that and there’s nowt unusual on the brakes that I’ve seen...

Pupp, the term is a little misleading but it's phrased as such because the act of braking triggers the energy recovery, not that the brakes do the recovery themselves.

I've not taken my alternator apart to prove my statement, but I'm guessing there isn't actually a clutch on the alternator, more likely the energy management system varies demand based on engine speed and brake/accelerator pedal position.

It does look very fit; I nearly posted earlier to ask if lowered. Great combination

Well, having had a play on my favourite roads today in MDM, can’t believe what I’ve been missing and how it transforms the car.
Looks like I’ll be keeping it a little longer... smile

Hello - snowing like crazy today and now heading for -1c overnight - so glad I put the summer tyres back on tongue out

Mrs Momo couldn't pull the door shut with the strong wind ...

Anyway - still not getting many miles in, although I did find I can use 2 segments of fuel in the space of ~1hr when the sun is out (Saturday).

Can you help answer these questions :

- What does LCI stand for ?
- Are the main dials digital or analogue ? It looks like the needles are analogue and the numbers digital...
- I've got M2 set as my "heading out for a drive" mode, with everything in Sport Plus, but the DSC on. What happens with DSC Off and MDM ? What is MDM and is my driving up to it ? lick

Need to get discovering the car and the roads more - 1200miles in 5 months is appalling.
Happy to see Harry Metcalfe's latest video summarising his preference for the C v the CS....

DSC off is the traction control off. MDM is explained on the previous page wink

And 1200 miles in 5 months is indeed appalling! biggrin

I am under strict house orders not to disobey Covid Travel Restrictions - rest of the family work or study Health !!! Not sure how I manage

I am currently on Google Maps looking around my favourite West Coast Routes, with fuel stops pre-planned

Need to get some serious miles added to mine, only done 350 miles in the last year since I bought it and need to get the RIS out the way.

LCI = Life Cycle Impulse or basically BMW speak for a mid-life refresh of the model.

The main dials are digitally backlit.

DSC off is no traction control. MDM is M Dynamic Mode which loosens traction control but doesn't fully remove. I'd suggest trying it out on the dry and take it easy to see how you fair.

It allows a certain slip angle before intervention.

Brilliant - thanks. Dry day - DSC Off / MDM on....

Hi guys,

possibly a bit off-topic but thought I should ask anyway.

So I took delivery of a brand new M2C less than 4 month ago (it was the last brand new manual M2C delivered in the country btw). Today I am told we have to relocate to Europe. I will probably have to sell the car. I bought the car on PCP (first time for me) from BMW Finance.

My question: what is the best course of action for me to sell the car without losing too much money? Pay the car in full to BMW Finance and then sell the car privately?

thank you

Ben
