Discussion
I am biased as I own an E60 M5. I never considered the M6. I've always preferred saloons over coupes I suppose as they are more practical with 4 doors & more room in the back. I know a lot of people will disagree but I think the M6 only looks good from side on view, never liked the front or back end. I've never driven an M6 so can't comment how different they are but the M6 is supposed to have the edge performance wise.
Probably a lot more used M5's to choose from.

Urm, the E60 M5 is a V10 too, the same one!
Yes but it was produced in much greater numbers. The ratio was 1:5 I think. In the time I have had my M6 I have only seen 2 other M6 models both wierdly in Huddersfield.
I see at least one F10 M5 everyday no matter which city or town I am in. Still doesnt stop me wanting one though! Even the new F12 M6 does not have the exclusivity of the old E63 model in my opinion.
I was originally looking for an M6, was just about to put a deposit down on an AUC but was beaten to it... So I ended up with an M5 and I'm glad I did. I think the M5 looks more aggresive and more distinct from the non-M range.
The driving position is a bit higher though, that's one downside.

I nearly pulled the trigger on an M5 last year. It was the first time I'd driven a V10 S85 and it was breath taking when it went over 4000rpm. When the salesman told me to put my footdown I had the biggest grin on my face. The driving position is a bit higher though, that's one downside.
I think the E60 M5 is still quite a rare sight on the roads today, would say I've only seen about 5 or so on the roads in the year I've had mine, except car shows obviously. Saying that I was at Goodwood PH Sunday service last week and mine was the only E60 M5 on a list of 750 cars. M6 is definitely a lot more scarce but I don't think it was due to a limited production, more likely that it just didn't sell as well as the M5 when new. Both are fantastic cars.
I am not sure your decision will be made any easier after reading the replies to your post as they appear split down the middle, each with valid points and preferences.
If my two penneth helps at all my vote is the M6, I have owned and enjoyed both (I currently still have an M6)
I cannot say one is better than the other after all they share most of the same DNA it really comes down to personal choice.
Why do I personally prefer the M6? Well for the same reasons as mentioned in other posts, it is a much rarer bird than the M5 and thus, to me, feels a little more special.
I am the first to admit the M5 is a better looking car the M6 is more marmite and I understand why others do not like it, I personally do and given the rarity factor compared to the M5 is why I currently have one and vote in its favour.
Ultimately both are great and if what people have said here helps your decision making then we have helped but I suspect the evenly split views thus far means the final decision will come back to your own internal battle as to which you prefer.
Good luck and do let us know what you decide upon.

Don't want one of those, they're too new! Plus I like the old v10.
Never knew the m6 was so rare. I just prefer the looks of the m5.
Still undecided.
Jonah, the M6 was only rare because no one wanted to buy them new. Very unresolved design. Funny how ugly cars that didn't sell now become a prized 'rarity'. Stunning engine though. Never knew the m6 was so rare. I just prefer the looks of the m5.
Still undecided.
The new M6 is a different kettle of fish, especially in saloon form.
Buy whichever you prefer. Perhaps the convertible? At least you'll get to hear the soundtrack more often.
M5 all day long.
You already agree with me on the looks.
Just more of a man's car.
Despite my F10, I still lust after the E60,
While waiting at a dealership recently, they gave me the keys for one to kill an hour in, top customer service.....I warmed it up and put it in attack mode to experience that instant throttle response, the thumping gear changes and the glorious V10.
Just get one.
Looking forward to the pics!

Is it correct that the E63 M6 feels a little more agile, has a shorter wheelbase, a lower centre of gravity and is slightly lighter than the E60 M5?
Yup, it's also alot more 'lively' and twitchier than the larger M5 saloon too as I found out yesterday when I hit a puddle on the M606 and went sideways at 90mph before my Michael Schumacher esque skills saved the day. Talk about sh*tting my pants!
