E60 V10 with E90 V8 manual gearbox

Err, didn't the E60 V10 come with a manual gearbox in the US? Shirley it would be easier to find out what they used\did in that or alternatively just import one.
i thought the manual gearbox fitted to some u.s. v10's, was the same e90 m3 gearbox as i've used....?i had to make a part/spacer that fits between the release bearing and the clutch fingers.
the spacer that comes with the v10 clutch, doesn't fit the m3 release bearing.
making the part just seemed easier/quicker/cheaper than waiting for the u.s. part to turn up

Really? Sidn't know that but I guess it makes sense. At any rate my response was more aimed at the OP who was asking if\how it could be done and since BMW have done all the hard work for this already in the shape of the US only manual M5, I thought I'd direct him in that direction, rather than trying to re-invent the wheel.i had to make a part/spacer that fits between the release bearing and the clutch fingers.

Very cool project by the way. What have you done to the suspension setup to counteract the weight of that big beast of a V10 up front?

I know someone has fitted the V10 into an E46 M3 and used the manual box you mention, probably because getting the electronics to work would have been more expensive and complex than the rest of the conversion lol
Who? What? Where? How?What's that ou say!!!!
How much!
Where do I sign?

warsteiner///M3 - have you got a build thread? thats going to be awesome!

I can't even begin to imagine the sort of power to weight that will have! EPIC will not being to describe it. I hope you've uprated the suspension, stoppers and chassis to cope with the spine shattering torque that the V10 puts out!
Done properly with a few tweeks it will make an M6 look slow!magpie21 said:
That is fantastic, do you have a build thread anywhere? I would love to know more.
Great effort

WOW you may have to register, if your not a member, but that will only take a few moments.
The workmanship going into this is incredible, well worth registering to see all of the effort that has gone into it. I am hugely envious of your skills. Can't wait to see a video of it when its started.
Congratulations

getting back on topic how hard of a job is this and can the box handle the power.
The box can easily take the power - it is making the v10 fit around things like steering rack, radiators etc, which will be challenging. Then you have the small matter of coding the V10 to work with 6the spd box and not to look for the SMG box when you press the "Start Engine" button. You can solve the latter by fitting a Pectel ECU, but that is not cheap either. This is not a job for a DIY-er, unless you are super good with spanners and have access to a proper garage with fabricating equipment...Cheburator mk2 said:

Sorry I meant fitting the v8 box to the v10 while it remains in the e60 shell so just the box swap. johnnybegood said:

Lol, this has already been answered in this thread.Yes the V8 box will work and take the power as others have done it and it's whats fitted to manual M5's in the US.
You need to either get a part made up or imported from the US to mate the release bearing to the clutch.
