Hi everyone,

Been lurking around PistonHeads for ages but haven't ever posted, but finally found a decent reason (maybe).

I've got the seemingly perpetual 2 year itch and have been looking at the other cars again ¬.¬ This time it's the possibility of trading in my Volvo 850 T5-R for an E39 M5 (another car I've always wanted to own).

Anyway, to get to the point, I've been reading all the buying guides (the excellent one here and M5board) but wondered if there was any generous person in the Hampshire area who had a good one I could take a look (just look obviously) at before I look at one to buy for real so I have a better idea of what I'm looking at?

Thanks!

I'm in Basingstoke if that is any good for you? Quite happy to show you mine over and take you for a drive, though it's alternator-less until mid-week! There's another M5board chap who lives near to me as well, so we might be able to arrange both at once? He was talking of selling his too iirc.

Wow, that was quick - thanks very much smile

I'm in Southampton, so both of you are about the same time/distance away. Guess there wouldn't be much point in trying to look at one in the dark so perhaps something over a weekend? Appreciate weekends might be busier for people though.

Thanks again for the offers, will PM you both.

Hi,

There's an enthusiast owner of an E39 M5 in Southampton I know who I think might well also be able to help you. He's a regular member on the bmw5.co.uk forum.

I can PM him to ask for you? if he agrees, I can drop you his details on a PM to you.

cheers, Dennis!

I'm up the A31 in Ash (next to Aldershot) and although I don't own an M5 anymore I've had a few so may be able to offer assistance

The BMW Car Club E39 M5 chairman lives in Pool, not Hampshire, but not far.

Well thanks for all the help and advice chaps - was up in London for an event in the weeks following my last post so went to see a car advertised here on PistonHeads:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...

From what I've learned from the Interwebs and the good people (especially @nick1275 @one-point-nine) here helping me out and answering my incessant questions I assessed it to be a pretty decent (mainly needs the wheels refurbishing) one I made an offer a couple of days later and picked it up Saturday.

Don't have any decent pictures but here is is after an educational 2 hour slog across to the other side of London to pick it up (13 year old maps worked though)!

The Volvo is now up on the classifieds here too: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/v...biggrin

Is this car on M5board?

Lovely looking M5. Just goes to show that a well looked after M5 can handle the miles.
