Has anyone done a comparison between the two ?

I recently sold a 2018 X5M and went down to 1 car (2020 M135i) due to the car covering under 4k miles in 12months.

As the country starts to open up in a few weeks/months looking at a larger car again.

Ideally I'd like to get back into a X5M but the uplift from the M50i is many £k's (80k to 120k) and it got me thinking if the extra was worth the everyday use.

The M50i performance is pretty much the same to the model I had.

Had a 2017 X5M from new and loved it as a daily runabout; tried a M50i at the time and it was awful in comparison.
However, come 2020 I tried the new new X5M and found it dreadful due to the ridiculously uncompromising ride, no way could I consider one as a daily. Tried the new M50i and much preferred it as a daily, however, in the end found the car just to big and bought an M5 instead.
Interesting to hear you say the new x5m ride quality is a lot worse than the previous model. Used our old one as the family wagon under normal times and done a lot of long distance driving in it. Sounds like that wouldn’t be as comfortable in the new model.

I also hear the new one doesn’t have the exhaust crack on gear selection !

Thanks for the responses.

Sounds like the ride comparison may not be an issue after all.

Cayenne S was also on the radar but I think the looks are so bland for the £, not that I particularly want a shouty bling mobile. No doubt they drive well although performance comparison it would need to be the turbo model.

The car market is all a bit flaky at the moment with used cars up in price due to new cars being long lead with the semi conductor delays.

Anyone know what a typical discount is on each of the M50i or X5M new ? No much on google.

After a bit of scratching about and some inquiries looks like M50i discount is around £9.5k and the X5M is circa £12k.

The GFV for each are pretty low £35k and £45k. £k's of options add very little to the GFV (£15k of options only brings the GFV up by £3k) meaning any form of PCP deal to get the monthly payment down heavily reliant on the dealers discount.

Took the plunge and went for a X6 M50i.

This was a showroom car which came with a few options that I wouldn't typically spec but really pleased with it. New car order would've been April.

It has a great turn of pace and excellent comfort levels, best of both worlds.
