Any Dyno'd M3s out there guys? If not does anyone know what they usually get?
E46 M3.. We got 320bhp
Don't suppose you fancy doing a late model e36 M3. Would love to know just how well its running.

Most E36 M3's as stock hit between 320-330bhp. Most CSLs seem to run between 330-350bhp as standard. This was certainly a good one. It was a BMW press car so its probably been driven hard from the getgo (which generates most power from a new engine) but it will have been looked after immaculately (BMW change the oil, service every 3k miles like we do on our cars) so it would be an ultimate example.
E36 M3's are a pop in comparison to dyno, they tend to generate pretty accurate stock numbers.

not the evos mate they tend to hit 290 ish rarely above 305.i had my lightly modded evo rr it hit 300.along with loads of others ive seen they rarely ever hit 321hp.the 3ltrs are a bit more likely to hit standard as long as running right

I think he means the E46, which tend to hit 320, 330.. and the non evo E36 which tend to get standard figs.
I've never seen an evo make power before
I was told that Porsche power figures include a production power range of -0% to + 5%.
Hence many GT3MkII's dyno at close to 400 bhp (from a spec 381).
My recollection is that CSL engines rarely hit the quoted 360, and even tuned versions are in the 370 to 380 range ??? with 100 cell cats and --- I don't think there's much else to be done ?

I'm putting race cats and centre section on mine this weekend. Not the backbox though as I didn't want any drone. I will probably then get it dynoed early in the new year by either Surrey Rolling Road or Thorney Motorsport. I will only do that though if I feel confident enough they can actually achieve a correct figure. The best thing I should do is get it dynoed before and after but I don't have time and am quite keen on getting the exhaust bits on this weekend.
billy boy! good work and sounds like the car is coming on nicely!!
have you got any track days planned in 2007?
anis sounds like you made the right mods there, so with a re map and those mods your car is going to be rather special! makes us std chaps look slow and rather quiet!
hope you all had a good xmas and all the best for 2007 in CSL hands. bit lively in this weather I have to say. dread to think what cups are like!!

Are you getting a remap at the same time? Very tempted by this myself - without the backbox for the same reasons as you - but have just renewed my extended warranty and don't want to render it worthless if I have a problem with the engine...

'Never heard of 400 bhp out of this motor --- hence the BMW rush to a V8.
I was told by a BMW development engineeer that the CSL engine was right on the limit of reliable performance.

That doesn't stop specialist American tuners revving them to 8,800 rpm for their 400 bhp!

I doubt I will do a remap. I'm just too scared about the engine being too much on the limit and hence causing a problem later on. I just see it as a risk that is not worth taking for 10-15bhp. I'm sure it would cope fine with the remap but not willing to take the chance. The exhaust mods will be fine, no warranty issues and should be good for 7-10bhp and a stronger midrange and a nicer sound. I'll post once I have it done and will be quite honest if it does nothing but I know people who have done it who certainly notice the car sounding better and being quicker.
Nick, another CSL owner has had Intrax fitted by Simpsons and he is having major problems with it. It's been quite a detailed thing but to cut a long story short their road kit is just way too hard to use on normal roads. On a flat smooth road it is stunning but on our normal crap UK roads it is just to uncomfortable he reckons.
good comments and always good to know.
bit like the corvette Z06 I went out in. awesome on track but it trashes all over the place on our roads and was a pig to ride in. jittered all over the place and the smallest pot hole would send it all over the place.
maybe had the wrong tyres on it but no fun to drive!!
leave the CSL as it was meant to be. a sweet fast road machine!!
