Has anyone got a pic of a sticky plate stuck where the plinth was on a mk1?
I want to fit mine there but am not convinced that it'll go into the groove and still look ok.

Has anyone done this and how thin are the craig's plates stick-ons - can they be pressed into the groove withough ripping / distorting?

Thanks

I think you could. I've not done it but putting soapy water (i think) on the area 1st will allow the sticker (or numberplate) to slide around a bit. So soap up, put plate over the crease and then use a rag or some such to push it into the groove.

The vinal is strong enough to be massaged a bit it wont tear. But if it sticks you'll not b able to push it into the groove.

Like I say I've never done the soapy thing but I saw it on tv once.....on a boat....

Yep, bit of soapy water (in one of those small plant misters that you can get from B & Q etc) is great for applying larger stickers / vinyls as you can move it around and line it up properly then use a rubber blade or squeegee type thing to smooth the sticker out and get the water out from under the sticker.

Yes, wish I had known that before sticking it on wonky frown

Where have you all bought your sticky plates from? I'm after one so I can remove the horrid plastic plinth, and my Mazdaspeed front end looks to have more suitable locations for mounting a sticky than the factory nose cone.

Me too. They also do a special discount on a replacement one if you cock up sticking it on! (ask me how I know...)

Not sure you should fit it where the plinth across the groove. They are not legal anyway but the law tend to ignore that because they tend to comply with "the spirit of the law" i.e. they are clear, the correct size plate & letters and mounted on a flat panel. If you mounted it across the groove it would make it harder to read and I'm pretty sure the law (and the MOT man) wouldn't look too kindly on it. When I had my Mk1 I put a sticky in the same place as those pictured above (replacing the Mazda badge) and never has a problem. on my Mk2.5 it's easier to fit it lower and keep the badge as there is no groove cool

ETA: I've seen them mounted on the bonnet just above the leading edge too wink
