Evening all - well, I've finally taxed and insured my Mk1 today, having bought it 3 weeks ago, and replacing the clutch and servicing it in the meantime has bought it up to scratch. I therefore thought it would be rude not to sieze the opportunity to take it out for a good blast into the peaks with my brother in his VXR (which he's just fitted a full Remus system to - so it sounds the mutt's nuts!).

Managed to cover about 100 miles (all with the top down, and heater on driving ) and had a nice blast along with the VXR and an RX7 that joined us for a bit. The little '5 held up pretty well - the Astra is obviously hugely faster, but I was having just as much fun and keeping up in the twistier bits pretty well!

We stopped off at Monsal Head for a cuppa and a couple of quick photos (the roof's up as we'd been for a wander round - that was soon put right!)

Overall I'm thoroughly impressed with my new little toy - I just hope my 4500 miles on the insurance policy is going to be enough - especially if I'm taking it to Le Mans!

Cheers folks - glad you like it! Up to almost 200 miles so far, and already spotting more little jobs that I'd like to do... The good news is that there are very few that I'll NEED to do...

I just bought it other day...

So much fun to drive. It needed a little TLC dent there and that, and a good polish, and clean the hood and drain hole, replace the gear gaitar, and buy some cubs box and ditch the cd player out, (im deaf)

Nice car smile

I've never thought about this before; if you are *really* deaf, I guess you spend quite a bit of time glancing at the rev counter? I guess some shift lights would be a handy mod..?

I never need an rev counter, I just feel the car and use instinct to change the gears.

Quick, the suns out!

Snapshots, not very good ones. Showing how badly I need a respray.
As soon as I get my next job, next winter I'm gonna show this car some serious TLC. I love it so much, I want to properly strip it down and restore it.

Snotrag, it looks awesome - it may be the paint, but your car seems to have really nice proportions...

I do love it. Its a fantastic "ten yard car".

As in, from ten yards, it looks great. Theres no dents etc, the Mazdaspeed bumper adds just enough to the front end, its low but not too low, wheels are the right size, little lip spoiler, etc etc, and the paint is very shiny and lots of wax on it.

The problem is, up close, you notice the stone chips, faded rubber trim, rusty wiper blades, cracks and crazing in the fibreglass etc.

Its a keeper for sure, its solid, no rust, strong engine, and some tasty bits. I'm just hoping that next winter I'll have the space and money (and another car) to enable me to make it truly fantastic.

This is why I'm happy to spend money on mine both cosmetically and in terms of uprating mechanicals - it's a very good condition example. No rust, sweet engine etc. Yeah the bonnet and bumpers need a respray, but that's just a matter of getting it done once I'm ready to splash the cash.

The wheels suit your car beautifully - Love em biggrin

I want that front splitter too!

I can't believe ho diddy it is in comparison to that S2000!

Mind you, that S2000 is a particularly lovely colour.

Bwooarp! is a great word / noise!

Nice!

Popped out with a couple of mates yesterday....

I was passenger in a Tiger (tiny little aero screen, no helmet and just sunglasses - I could hardly breathe when it really got going), another mate in his 205 GTi (running a 306 GTi-6 enginer) and another guy in his Nissan Pulsar.

Damn good fun!
