I wonder if they want the VIN as French insurance will not take the UK Reg number. Possibly.

and don't give your home address - maybe agree to meet up at supermarket car park or something?

Another reason is that the GBP is pretty weak compared to the Euro so a similar car in France might be a lot more - the inconvenience of RHD might be easy to bear if it costs less to buy!

Well, I've given him the information he wanted. I've spoken to his friend twice, been sent a picture of ID and the £1800 in fifty pound notes, found his active facebook page which is plastered with postings of modded MX5's going back way before he contacted me AND he has sent me a £100 deposit.

If this is some kind of scam to get my name and a copy of my V5 (which even if he had the original is not proof of ownership) then it is very elaborate for no gain that I can see confused

Sounds alright to me now - pretty elaborate to do all of that for a 1500 quid car ?

Have you got his name and address to ? Check to see if his address is valid and and have a check on street view, everything helps.

I sold a car to a guy in France, just asked loads of questions, found his address was actually a Cafe in southern France, a bit more googling and found out that he was the registered owner and other stuff.

All went quiet for a bit then he turned up on my doorstep with 10K in his pocket !!

Ask him for a bit more deposit maybe another 2-300 quid to prove hes keen.

I do seem to remember something about the V5 - not too sure why though, might have been something to do with the age of the vehicle ?

Sold frown

Truly gutted to see her go. On the plus side, I got full price and the French kid seemed to be an enthusiast and couldn't stop grinning from the moment he clapped eyes on her!
