Hi,
I'm looking to purchase my first MX5 as a second and fun to drive car (my A6 is a bit of a sofa on wheels!). I've a budget of around 2k so a mk1 is in my price range. Today I test drove a 1.8i Dakar, it all seemed fine but the millage is 180k. I've read someother threads and high milage doesn't seem a problem but 180k seems very high for a 96' car. Just wanted to put the feelers out and make sure that if i was to go head it wouldn't give up on me in a months time! Oh and i got a wet right leg in the torrential rain is a slight leak easily fixed? Any help greatly apperciated.

Thanks for the advice. It was also sitting really high like a mini monster truck so I think i'm better off steering clear. I'll continue my searching and let you know what else comes up incase of other problems. Thanks.

One week of ownership, whats that all about? You would have thought she would have gone on a test drive first and cat D could be dodgy. I'll keep my eye on the other one, its also not got a lot of history and been resprayed but if the price stays low it could be a find. Cheers for looking.

Hi,
Been away filming for a few days in north wales and no internet! So back on the hunt again. Its geat all the tips i'm getting. I might see if I can get a chance to go and look at this one over the next week. http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/imag...
Its up for £1400 with 85000 miles (1992). Not sure if the picture link worked, i'm a bit rubbish with doing things like that.
Ps. I reckon the cheapest way to lower a high ride would be bags of sand in the boot!!!!laugh

I know what you mean about the wheels but they can be easily changed. I think that the hard top would be good for the winter as the rear window won't fog up as much (so i hear). As for it being an eunos i dont think that matters as long as its the 116bhp which i think all the imports are as far as I can tell from reading threads on here. I'm away for the weekend so will go and have a look early next week, I'll keep you posted.

Going to see if i can get along and look at the car in the link i posted last week. The price has dropped and all the images taken off the ad page...strange, hope its not dodgy. Is there anything really abvious look out for that can help me avoid bad mx5's? Thanks.

Thanks for that. Just called my insurance company for quotes and they've given me a really good price that stays fixed for 1.6 or 1.8 and either a mx5 or import which is pretty good.
