I'm really glad you posted this - when it comes down to it I really don't give a monkey's about mpg, for a car that will be insured for no more than 3,000 or 5,000 miles a year it's not even part of the equation. It's about how you feel when you open the garage door and see it sitting there, getting in it and starting it up, taking in the smells and the old school ambience before going for a drive. It's about the noise that comes out of the tail pipes, the things it conjures up in your mind and how that makes you feel. A chrome bumper 'vette would be wonderful but then so would an early rubber bumper one, the power can always be upgraded as can the rest of running gear if need be, originality and perceived future value isn't my priority but period feel and pure enjoyment is. I think performance wise, whatever I buy is going to be way ahead of my humble Cooper S, I'm looking forward to a very different experience wink

Nice that wifey is looking at new shaped Mustangs at Ford Dealers ,right direction just wrong time line,

Easily remedied, newish Mustang for her and something classic for you, easy fix just the garage to fight over.

As per, the 69' SS/RS on Ebay at 55K, And yes the 68 car looks sharp, and now 35K dont look a lot of cash, till one has to come up with it laugh
Well they keep springing up very quickly ,what with the 440 6 pack RT Challenger and now the blue Camaro ,

Looks like he's even using the same photo's from Collecting Cars ,it's now in Maidenhead so not far from Guildford.

Seems more and more dealers getting involved with the yank scene besides the regular ones.

While looking for the RS/SS i came across yet another of my old ladies,a 79 Z28 in graphite grey with orange graphics,

Paid £3,500 for it around 14 years ago ,sold it to someone local for £5,500 so did ok, After he repainted it and put new graphics

on he emigrated to Spain and sold it to someone else who is local for around £5,500 /£6K, could well be the same guy advertising it now

It had a rebuilt 355 when i owned it but doesn't mention it in the ad,

How's the knee, improving i hope,

You know i think i may of had a LT but at the time didn't pay much importance to it, for a start the internet was only

just getting up and running unlike today with all the info there at a press of a key, It's a bit late now finding out but from memory

it was a 70 split-roof manual car with the 327 but it was so fast and felt like it handled so much more precisely than any other C3

i had ,All the others tried to kill me.

Had a lovely box, beautiful shade of metallic dark green with black leather so very understated, Think i paid £6,750 for it, would be a keeper

now but at the time was trying to get through my wish list of yanks as soon as possible , The woman who bought it off of me came down to

buy my yellow 68 roaster but didn't like the way it drove being a bit looser on the road compared to the split -roof car,

She had it painted yellow which was a shame, love to have it back and paint it back to the original colour.

The irony is she doesn't drive, have given her a few lessons over the years but she shies away from taking the test! She'd be happy for 'our' next car to be an auto though. I think even the later Mustangs stand out from enough the crowd, there are quite a few round here which she is always pointing out when we're driving round in the daily Alfa. When we first met she was a bit of a biker chic so has the right stuff running through her veins.

There's a Corvette specialist not too far from me which I'm planning to visit once the Mini has gone at the end of the week, I need to start looking at cars in the metal (or fibreglass) instead of via youtube and ebay.

Another question for you gents - most if not all of the C3s appear to have the (brilliant) adjustable steering wheel but are the seats adjustable on runners like most other cars....? (I'm only 5' 3'' wink).

Good news on the clip being removed, the recovery must seem endless as for driving in couple of weeks will be like

being let out of jail, I had centre lines on my sublime Challenger but got the original Magnum's with the car,

I never fitted them being happy with the Centrelines but the guy i sold it to did, i saw it on the Mopar stand at the NEC and they

looked cool, Yes i have quite a few tips on the PH super car forum ,infact 2 pages of them with different suggestions ranging from

call the AA to a failed crank position sensor or a Hallefect sensor what ever that is scratchchin .bolts to the bell housing ,10 minute job

apparently but nobody seems to known how you get to it, Looks like a truck to Emblem as i don't want to worry my mate who is in mourning

for his doggy and don't like to ask. Very frustrating as i had someone who wanted to see a car i got advertised over the Easter

but i had to turn him down as the Gallardo is in the way from getting it out so making another problem. :smash

Seats are adjustable, so you shouldn't have any issues with your height.

Here's a short video of my '72 LS5 made by the previous owner, just before I purchased the car.

As has been said at 5' 3" you should be fine - I'm 5' 9" and have the seat runners all the way back. Don't have tele steering but did need to swap-out the OEM 16 1/2" steering wheel (for a 12 1/2" 'flat rather than dished wheel) as the base of it was all too close to my 'nads. Later chrome bumper cars with the tilt/tele option have great adjustability.

Bummer, its like one problem begets another !
Unusual for any one sensor to completely shut the system down, limp mode generally is optioned by the ECU's trips a lamp and stores a fault,
but were talking dark magic here so i could be talking boll---!

Yeah i do like the Chrome 500's , i'l see what NH comes up with, i hoping i can get the last few jobs done soon, but some involve laying underneath the car so i guess thats not going to be possible for sometime, but maybe the week after next i'l be able to fabricate my trunk linings, get them nicely covered,
and fitted,

Ive all but given up finding a second car now, looked at other stuff but pretty much all older cars are in demand, and pretty much all sellers are asking stupid prices, but lockdown is easing , im house bound so just for the time being i'l keep searching!

The guy may have been a time waster looking for something to do over Easter, at least that's what i am telling myself,

Proof will be if he will come when the Gallardo is gone to the workshop.

Before all this internet stuff i would buy a lot of cars through word of mouth, now everybody is on E-Bay or some site

if not a friend or neighbour is . Hang in there something will turn up just a case of right time and place, meanwhile you

got a stunning bright orange Challenger in the garage. smokin

Thanks for the info on the seats - good to know wink

Your '72 is absolutely beautiful, what a lovely thing it is. The rear buttresses really hit the spot compared to the later all glass fastback styling.

Thanks rosco. Funny thing with 'vettes is that until fairly recently I'd completely dismissed them as a potential next classic because of having no proper boot at the back, but watching all those youtube clips the stowage space behind the seats is probably fine for tucking away coats, a cooler bag and cameras on a day out somewhere. (The Fosse Way is ten minutes from my doorstep.... wink).

I feel like I've hijacked the thread somewhat, but thanks for answering my queries folks.

Earlier chrome bumper C3's with removeable rear window have more room (if used correctly) that one might think. Firstly there is the slideaway 'false' top section that the rear window is stowed. There is room in there for lightweight flat items, possibly clothing. Essential tools, oil, coolant, brake fluid, jump leads etc go in the underfloor compartment behind the passenger (battery is in the one behind driver. Your 'glove box' is a smaller comparment inbetween the other too for daily essentials. General rear storage area is probably similar space to what you'd expect in a small hatchback - but perhaps a little less accessible.

Didn't even know those box compartments were there behind the seats until I started on the youtube clips wink

Parts back up seems on a par with Mustangs, Minis etc, which isn't really a surprise, all good stuff.

Spot on, it is indeed clap. I think GM did a really good job with the Starmist colours on the chrome bumper Stingrays.
