I love the old aero stuff, have you seen the video of the Beast of Turin at this year's Goodwood FoS?

Reality is that with few exceptions, irrespective of what HP/TQ figures manufactures may quote for their vehicles - whether if be 490 bhp or 750 bhp one needs to ask the question - how much of the supposed power figures am I getting before the manufacturers 'nanny' sytems (so traction and yaw control, etc, etc) take things over and instantly reduce that 490 or 750 horse power to maybe a 200 or 300 hp figure to perhaps prevent the in-experienced (and the 'experienced' too!) running themselves off the road. Ah-ha! "so turn-off the 'nanny' controls" I hear you say........'thing' is that many manufacturers will still leave a basic level of 'nanny' control of the car.aeropilot said:
The best video of the Beast of Turin, is the one from 6 or 7 years ago, of Duncan driving it the 150 miles from Bristol to Goodwood when it made its Goodwood debut......utterly mental driving it on the road that distance ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

That was brilliant! I wonder how much petrol it got through on the 150 mile journey, they weren't hanging about were they?! ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

Fascinating - ones simply doesn't get a real perspective of these vehicles unless next to them - or better still a trip out in one (for lucky people).
I was fortunate to get a ride (albeit only a few hundred yards) in an early Locomobile steamer than an old buddy owns. Far, far away from being the quickest thing on the planet the significant thing was the amount of preparation (like pre-heating, waiting for things to come up to temperature etc) and the constant fettling when on the road - great fun (if not raining) - reality is that a 1/2 hour 10 -15 mile journey actually takes several hours when factoring all the safety checks, maintenance and warm-ups required.

I can’t remember when I first stumbled across this conversation but I pop back in from time to time as I find your extensive knowledge, memories and general discussion fascinating. My american car journey started in the early 90’s with a 65 289 Mustang fastback, 4 speed manual, first registered in November 1964. I always wanted a Galaxie/Charger/Impala big block but never had the funds/space or perhaps even the balls but the longest I have been without a yank was probably less than a year working my way through a variety of Mustangs and Camaros ( and one Monaro).
The desire for a proper old school muscle car has never gone…..and I still live in hope!!
Anyway given your discussion a few pages back, this just popped up on my eBay search and I thought of you guys…. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295828134478?hash=item4...
Hope you’ll forgive the intrusion. Mark
Ps loved the links to the beast

Nice to hear from you Huffy - interesting car, that Poncho. Trade seller not too far from me.
Thank you - As always, personal choice but I think there are a number of colours that a Poncho looks much better in and certainly that I would prefer - some cars look good in yellow but I am not sure that's one of them - interesting as you say (would go nicely with the interior of the Yukon they're selling). I am also familiar with the trader.......my current steed came from there!I quite like the look of that. Is it an Esprit, looks like an Esprit badge on the wing? Not 100% on the colour, I could be tempted with that otherwise! I wonder if it's possible to get it reregistered with the DVLA with a correct year plate (if you can prove the date of manufacture), that 78/79 T reg plate would bug me.

Lot of money for a almost poverty spec Firebird
Ok it’s supposed to be a 400, so a full engine number check would definitely be required,
Wait for a Formula’ or a TA would be my advice!
£23k buys you sod all worth buying these days. Seems mad, but there we are.Ok it’s supposed to be a 400, so a full engine number check would definitely be required,

Show me a decent bullnose TA for that money and I'll be on it like a tramp on chips.

While we're having a laugh, I've realised I've spent roughly £2500 on my Fireturd this year. So that's nice.

That's comforting to know. ![rofl](/inc/images/rofl.gif)
And yes things just keep spiralling forever upwards,
However at some point you’ll get to a point where your happy with the way the car drives,
This is most definitely the dangerous zone, cos you’ll start looking at performance upgrades, very very expensive!
But potentially epic fun!
I’d love to own something with a 500 inch Merlin
Stuff of dreams and just the ticket for doing my bit towards global warming

Ah yes ! - Merlin power.......I'll have some of that too, but preferrably 1650 cubic inches instead
