On a different vein - and not going to place this in ad's section.......I have a Corvette buddy who due to a very recent big C diagnosis who needs to 'place' a '59 283 cu in 'Fuelie' Vette...... hopefully with someone who understands the rareity and potential value of the car.
His words - "1959 Corvette. Fuel injected, black, silver cove with a red interior, hard top, soft top. This is a part restored car with all the hard work done. Body was taken off the chassis. Chassis stripped re painted and built up using the original and restored parts as needed. Engine and gearbox rebuilt. Body repainted in the above colours. I have started to install the stainless and chrome and have a complete new interior for the car in red. Totally numbers matching car with all the parts to finish that has never been shown in the UK. I have restored this car so far to NCRS standards of which I have been a founder member of NCRSUK chapter for 35 years. He also adds that the body appears to be totally original with no accident repairs. In addition to this there is 40 years worth of collected parts for C1 cars and has 100's if not thousands of parts including a complete 57 rolling chassis, complete 59 front beam, body panels, 2 rear clips, radios, hub caps new carpets set, new soft tops, used door panels, steering columns, steering wheels, white wall tyres on original rims"
With less than a 1000 produced a '59 Fuelie is rare and in value terms well stands well apart from 'ordinary' carbed Vettes of the same year. Car has got to be worth over £45K - the parts over £15K. He's had the usual 'low baller' traders make contact but as expected want to pay zilch. Great potential investment opportunity for someone perhaps.

But after 10 large the bills will decrease!
That's comforting to know. And yes things just keep spiralling forever upwards,
However at some point you’ll get to a point where your happy with the way the car drives,
This is most definitely the dangerous zone, cos you’ll start looking at performance upgrades, very very expensive!
But potentially epic fun!
I’d love to own something with a 500 inch Merlin
Stuff of dreams and just the ticket for doing my bit towards global warming
Ah yes ! - Merlin power.......I'll have some of that too, but preferrably 1650 cubic inches instead
Noooo they should be in a WW2 fighter flying over my house,
Nothing comes close to the sound they make
A couple of days ago I we went to visit 'er indoor's brother who's in a care home in the grounds of a hospital in Epping. North Weald aerodrome is literally 1/2 mile or less away and there is always a light aircraft 'in the circuit' - if you are lucky if could be a 50's jet under private ownership.......you can't always see them due to the build-up of housing in the way but you'll always hear aircraft taking-off or coming in for landing close over you. I'm presuming it was a Spitfire, it could have been a Hurricane or Mustang I guess......but what surprised me was how initially the supercharger whine totally dominated the air for a few seconds (I guess on take-off boost?)........then followed by that wonderful evocative V12 exhaust none.........fantastic......made my day!
I know most of you are down south, but if you're ever in the Lincolnshire area then head to East Kirkby where they have the Lancaster 'Just Jane'. They run it regularly and let me tell you that standing close to four merlins when they open the taps is something else!

I find it fascinating that that the same basic engine can sound so different in alternative aircraft.......the iconic sound is the Spitfire but the metal covered P51 Mustang has its own unique sound too..........My childhood summer memories are the sounds though of high flying radial piston engined airliners and others.......that wonderful 'soft', lazy sound just hanging in the air.....seemingly so long after the plane gas disappeared from view......and the occasional big double row radial engined warbird flying relatively low.........

Most likely one of the two Spitfires that belong to Pete Teichman, which are both based at North Weald, or his P-51D Mustang that he owns....I'd be inclined to suggest it was the P-51D from your description of the sound. As said, the P-51D does sound different to a Spitfire, despite basically having the same engine, and they usually have a more pronounced whine/whistle than a Spitfire.
Teichman's P-51D is a bit special, being a 'survivor' airframe, with a continuous history, and still bears its original WW2 battle damage repairs from its service in Italy with the famous The Tuskegee Airmen, the first all Afro-American combat fighter unit. Back in 2016 Teichman had it repainted back into its original WW2 'Red Tails' colours when it was flown by George Hardy in 1945, then a mere 19 year old, and later in 2016, Hardy, by then in his early 90's flew over to the UK to be re-united with his old aircraft he last saw nearly 70 years earlier, and as the aircraft now has a 2nd jump seat fitted, Hardy got to fly as a passenger in his old aircraft, after a gap of almost 70 years.
A lovely story.

Nothing makes me move quicker than that sound!
Whatever I’m doing il be outside in a flash just to get a glimpse!!
July is considered to be the start of the Battle of Britain
So on Wednesday we made our way down to “Hell Fire Corner,
And paid our respects to the Few at the Memorial at Capel ‘ la Fern
Between Dover and Folkestone,
My wife and I are always humbled by its presence,
Made our yearly donation and said a prayer,
Genuinely one of the few remaining reasons to be proud to be British.

Any Camaro folk on here? I've been directed here from my Readers' Cars thread as I bought a 69 Camaro big block SS recently, with zero research or preparation, and want to treat this car well...
The thread I started, for reference and so I don't just repost it all here and bore everyone!
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I was thinking of chopping it about for restomodding over the next few years (LS3 and modern auto etc), but am now questioning that, as it has turned out to be a real SS, with the 427 Corvette engine swap done by a US dealer brand new for a customer.
Help! Need to find the right folks in the UK for advice and support. I love the car, except for the lack of aircon and horribly stiff clutch.
It's been bounced through two auctions this year, so I am expecting some issues (all in my thread).
But it drives well, starts on the button, doesn't rattle or squeak and looks like it was restored last year. And it sounds RIDICULOUS.
Truth be told, I already love it.

If you have documentation from when it was new to prove that, then yes, for heavens sake, don't even think of ruining it by putting a horrible LS engine and modern auto in it.....!!! If you go back through this thread, you'll find us talking about this car when it was up for auction a while ago.
I see you're London region, so if you are looking for expert help in looking after it, I'd recommend contacting Tornado Automotive who are based just west of London in High Wycombe, a few minutes from J4 of the M40.

Dodgy dash aside , which I actually think is proper 70’s cool
And whether it’s a genny SS,
Which is only an accessory pack option,
I’d love it,
Guys it’s a 427 BB M21 tranny, cowl induction hood,
Fathom Green,
And it’s a 69’ which is always popular

It's almost the perfect spec for a '69.
A clone COPO or Yenko is a much better bet as you can enjoy the bloody thing by ragging the tits off of it, rather than be scared to take it out the garage.
It's a COPO, apparently, according to all the magazines I got in a box of stuff, including 1990s magazine features and all the stuff from the Goodwood concourse it was in, ages ago. But was originally yellow, not green, and has some non period mods like electronic ignition. So I'm sceptical...
Guy who bought it from Collecting Cars sold it on fast. He apparently has 30+ cars and I guess the Vato wasn't used/didn't make the grade. I got it for quite a lot less than that auction, so am budgeting for issues when I dig deeper. Thread on it in Readers Cars, so if anyone has tips, as this is my first foray into US classics, pleas help!
