I've been having some real fun with my 68 Deville. It broke down on me which turned out to be a wire someone rigged for the HEI distributor but that lead me down the path of replacing the carb with a new Chinese Quadrajet, new plugs, new MSD cap, rotor and coil, new plugs and plug wires and I just bought a new HEI distributor. All of this and I'm pretty sure that I'm still under $400 in parts.

Love a 68, my first Cadillac over 30 years ago was a 68 Fleetwood Brougham, great cars to drive, that 472 pulls like a trainMotorama said:

I have mine running reasonably well at this time but it still has a flat spot when accelerating which I think may be because of how the choke is functioning (basically where I bent the rod). I'm trying to decide if I should chuck the quadrajet and buy a Edelbrock at this point with electric choke and be done with it
The car again is a 68 Cadillac Deville with the 472

Nothing wrong with a Quadrajet carb........perhaps consider a remanufactured one from a specialist in the 'States.....should be able to supply one specifically jetted and set-up for your car........expensive though!
I got tired of making it run right so I bought a brand new Edelbrock 1411 750CFM carb and the correct adaptor to join a square bore carb to a spread bore intake. It took about 40 minutes to remove the old carburetor and install the new one and probably another 20 minutes of faffing around to wire up the electric choke mess with the linkage so that nothing bound up. The difference is remarkable. Car fires up on the first turn and no more dieseling on shut down. I adjusted the timing and put the air cleaner back on which fit perfectly. All is good now and i've divorced the quadrajet with the divorced choke.
I had a Rochester 4-Jet on my Impala with was worn out when I got it, so I ordered a rebuilt one from Rock Auto. That seemed to chew through accelerator pump rubbers in a few weeks, and eventually the helicoil that had been fitted in the inlet during the rebuild started backing out. I whacked the old carb top back on (w/o a helicoil) and then ordered a manual choke Edelbrock AVS2 and an adaptor. It's been great - starts easily and operates very smoothly.
I did have a rebuilt Q-jet on a 350 back in the late 80s that was a great carb; I loved that induction wail as the secondaries opened. I would have considered another but the Edelbrock was just easier in the UK.
