No, not been in the garage the last few days, my late evenings are spent at my folks house helping my mum take my dad to bed. He's in the final stages of his battle with pancreatic cancer. I had to almost carry him tonight, I don't think we have much longer to go. frown This thread and that car help take my mind off it. Sorry, I'm going off topic now.

On a lighter note, a big box arrived from the US with most of my suspension bits.
Sorry to hear about your dad, worse time ever, Lost my Dad 2 months before my mum died of a brain tumour ,

moved in with her for those months with lots of help Marie Curie, Stay strong.
My Dad lost his fight this morning. frown Thanks for the kind comments fellas.

Thought I'd come on here to distract myself from it for five minutes.

newsatten - I forgot to post, I checked my shocks last night, all air out the car only drops by 1cm, so the springs can stay. Have a good evening all.
Sorry to hear about your Dad Leigh, I think the only useful advice I can pass on is to just deal with it as it comes, at your own pace in your own way. I lost mine four years ago this month and I still struggle sometimes with getting my head around the whole thing. Best wishes to you and yours.

And thanks for the nice comment about the Maser - a car my Dad would have loved to own, which makes buying it all the sweeter.

Really sorry to hear this sad news, We all seem to be at a age where we have lost either our mum or dad or in some cases both.

Sounds like you have a strong family to support you, may your dad R.I.P ,

I miss the part of Hammersmith where I used to live and still go back to see family, but the bits of London I see via my job aren't so nice - Willesden, Wembley, Neasden etc. At least it's often dark when I'm working there so I don't have to look at the litter, weeds and graffiti so much.

Bought the Maser today, I must be dreaming....! Seller's going to put a fresh MOT on it then I'll see about getting it home, along with the nice stash of spares that come with it. It hasn't sunk in yet that my search is actually over, I've deviated and meandered something cronic along the way but now I'm 'there' I feel a bit light headed wink
What can i say !! clapSo pleased for you mate, a magical name steeped in racing history,Moss, Fangio all those great drivers come to mind

when i think of Maserati , Little sleep for you tonight boy, dreaming exciting things to come sleep

Even though my father was not allowed to drive (on medical grounds) he did love the engineering of certain cars. Citroen DS for example. Fiat Multipla was another. When my parents finally bought a car (my mother was to drive it) the car they chose, perhaps unusually was a primrose body, red roof 1956 Hillman Californian coupe. My father died at 48 in 1968 when I was 18. Possibly one reason why my '68 Vette perhaps has a more significant reason to me.

Have known John for a few years now - and yes he built the car-up from chassis etc. John had an obsession for a Lenco transmission (much like me with an '8 stack' injection system) - difference being was that he actually realised it. Not at all straightforward I have to say. He had lots of issues and breakages on the way. As you'll no doubt know the Lenco is a modular transmission - you want an extra gear - bolt on 'module' c/w its own shifter. Problem in a street driven vehicle is that the transmission (expecially if a 4 speed) takes up a lot of length and need some careful space planning in the cabin.

I like that part of London - Hammermith, Chiswick, Shepherds Bush - some real car history there too - also some incredible characters. I supplied electrical items to an obviously single guy in his late 60's in a period property in W12 - he was doing some major decoration and upgrading. I got in to conversation and it turn's out that he was a real heavy 'head banger' and had been to every single music concert in the area of consequence over the last 50 or 60 years. He knew all the 'progressive' and rock bands of the day and we reminised for some while over 'what was' in music terms. The thing that totally staggered me was his total concentrated interest in music. He had a collection of vinyl LP's etc - nothing unusual in that you might say.......but his collection was far more focused. We both agreed that the azimuth in rock music etc was a period from perhaps 1966 to1971. His belief was the peak year was in fact 1968 (this in his opinion being the mosty productive and innovative year - full stop) His total music collection (and we're talking about thousands of albums) was from just one year - 1968, nothing else, just from 1968. Amazing - what a chartacter. Plenty more of them in West London.......
Spent many happy time just driving round those parts of London just to window shot at the garages ,

The Chequered Flag in Chiswick, think it was Performance Cars just coming out of Brentford on the left going into London,is that

what they called the great Great West Rd,

As already mentioned Cliff Davis and Straight Eight in Goldhawk Rd ,Shepherds Bush, there was a shop for British classics spare parts

somewhere around Chiswick and Shepherds Bush ,the shop looked like time stood still , near there was a house with 5 or 6

Volvo P1800's in his drive, Frank Dales original showroom which i think was in Fulham or Hammersmith,

then off to the Mews garages off Cromwell Rd , Park Lane and Berkeley Square for the top end stuff ,off to George St to visit Portmans

thethen Lamboghini importer when Countachs,Espada's were new. then off to Wandsworth

for more classic stuff and then to The American Car Centre in Kingston on the way home ,

That's the only way i can find my round London , Some do it with names of pubs i do it with the car showrooms,

I was a sad then as well as now nerd
,

Although been into yanks for so long i must admit a lot of this tech drag car stuff goes over my head,

Straight cut gears are the nearest to things like that i've got involved in but there again that's a manual,

Lenco transmission is a fascinating thing. You only need a clutch to pull away - each ratio has is own shifter. You get clutchless instantaneous gear shifts. Its a bit like a series of overdrive units. Downside (perhaps) is that you don't get engine braking when slowing down - not an issue for a drag racer but perhaps problematic for street use whe you have marginal brakes.........

Maybe it's time to look elsewhere, you've got a iconic yank so wouldn't hurt to have something British to

to keep it company, something like the TVR haven't as yet hit dizzy heights price wise ,not sure if they will but if not won't

go down either, My mate who sold all his Falcons went up to see the blue T/A,he said it looks a nice car at first

but the more you look the more he found, don't think he's going to buy it ,on his description sounds like you would

want money from him and the T/A for your RT.scratchchin

laugh
Im easily distracted ! Yes im not surprised regarding the TA, well seller was'nt over forthcoming ??? to be fair he's only had it weeks so fair enough i suppose,
And car for car the TA's no better or no worse than my turd, all products of a time ,

Im back to work on Monday, hoping just to ease my self in ?? Been working in the garden to get match fit, i hasn't worked laugh
Good luck with work on Monday your going to need it after being off for so long,

Sorry for so many posting but being out all day every day i got a job catching up with you guys not getting on the

forum till late ever night.

Thanks all, been a hell of day. My Dad wasn't into cars really, he was more into steam engines, and enjoyed helping restore them in his spare time when he could, moreso after retirement. When I was a kid in the mid to late 70s he'd generally be found underneath one of BL's 'finest' of a weekend fixing it so he could get to work on Monday. He did appreciate the sound of a V8 though - I'll take mine for a run tomorrow and think of him.
