I'm not really into the post mid 70's exotica.......I suppose the love of Americana by then having seen American Graffiti took over (apart from rallying and rallycross stuff of course) so I never really 'got' the Countach or other stuff like that. I remember being in London with a mate in the early eighties, and he was astonished I walked right past a parked up winged Countach without even glancing at it.....he was going all wibble-wibble and I had ignored it rofl

Now a Muira or Daytona, or a lovely old 250 Lusso, I would have stopped and admired.....but after the Daytona/Muira era, there's not much 'exotica' I have any interest in.
There's tooooooo many stunning cars whether American or Italian, the 3 you just mentioned are all at the top of my

lotto win list along with the 275 GTB , I met Joan Collins brother , he owns a underground car park in Kensington and while i was there he showed me his Lusso,

he bought it many years ago and only paid a few thousand pounds for it,fortunately he had the foresight to keep it,

mate of mine paid£40K for a Miura in several box's ,restored it mostly himself and couldn't get £100K for it at the time,

had to swap it for 3 cars and a little cash, Sadly the car caught on fire while in the hands of Coys Auction,

it's now been restored again,

I was liucky enough to drive a plexiglass Daytona ,I had a ex/works Ferrari factory Le Mans driver in the passenger seat so

not relaxed as i should have been, apart from a heavy dead feeling steering and heavy clutch it was a great, Long legged for

that trip down to the South of France rather than go shopping in,

Drove the ex Clint Eastwood 275 GTB but only from Earls Court to Kensington, Both remembered as red lettered days.

Must admit to loving the Countach ,looks like it just landed from outer space even today,

Totally different subject - remember when you had gas station attendants? - usually some old boy adding to his pension. Took me back to the mid/late 60's. Picture this........

There was a really basic filling station on the A127 a hundred yards east of Gallows Corner, Romford. It didn't last for too long. I guess its the sort of place you'll call a 'pop-up' shop nowadays (here today, gone tomorrow) - there was nothing here, just concrete forecourt, 4 pumps and a little shed for the attendants and till.
Very clever marketing as the owner employed rather attractive young ladies in short, (very short) mini skirts. This was the late 60's remeber, and really the only place to get your petrol for us young lads.
The trick was to own a car with the filler cap on the offside of the car (or offside rear) so when you pulled-in left to the forecourt off the dual carriageway you'd be sure to pull-up a little bit further away from the pump and somewhat short of it than perhaps ideal.
The logic here was that the miniskirted attendant would have to stretch over the side of the car to get the hose in the filler cap..........hopefully you'll get the (wonderful) picture here. Of course the girls knew what was happening and would play-up to it all. Those were the days.....

Wonder what those lovely young girls would look like today in their mini shirts , scratchchin you probably be looking the other way now

fear of putting you off your breakfast yikes I can talk ,only got to look in the mirror and wonder what happened to that handsome

young man,irked

I can't quite put my finger on why, but the Daytona has never really given me the same 'fizz' that the Miura, Espada, Countach, Urraco, 250 Lusso, the various 330s, Dinos and 275s always have, it's a bit odd really. Not that I've ever riven any of these... rat rod I do envoy you a lot!

I thought you would be there, I don't think they open till you ,Stewart and Milton get there,

At least it stayed dry for most of the day, Along with covered trailers probably on the way back from F.O.S i saw quite a few yanks

heading back up the north when i was on my way to Manchester today, Good to come away with some prizes ,only ever won

a prize once but i went home early and my mate had to collect it for me. rolleyes

never that fussed about trophies myself, just like an excuse to have a ride out in a car and to catch up with mates

Dream Cars were at Goodwood all weekend, they had a pretty impressive display on the Cartier lawn of the GM Triple Crown, a 53 Caddy Eldorado, 53 Olds Fiesta and a 53 Buick Skylark, all low production cars. They also just got a real nice 56 Packard Caribean Convertible, one of only 276 built which was there

Yes it's nice driving them but not so good having to hand the keys back, When i was sitting at the lights to turn right into Cromwell rd

from Earls Court in the 275 GTB i really was tempted to go left and put my foot down away from the heavy traffic but the owner was sat

behind me in his Daytona ,don't think he would be to impressed.nono Forgot to say the Daytona i drove was up for sale at £19,995

at Maranello's in Egham back in the day when it was still privately owned by Colonel Ronnie Hoare ,

It was one owner ,chairman of the F.O.C ,19,000 miles, in comparison i was paying £12K/£13K for 3 year old 308GTS's at the time,

should have taken a mortgage out on the Daytona instead, but we can all say that now about something yes

Probably the Daytona reminds you to much of a 2 door SD1 or does the Rover remind you of a 4 door Daytona , ???? sorry 5 door,

I'm the same ,just go for a day out and see people i haven't seen for a while, a mate took 4 cars to the Worthing American show as he does

every year and come away with 3 cups , He said it was getting embarrassing by the time he had to collect the 3rd cup.

Ye the boys have some lovely cars, Was the Packard the blue/white one from Scotland that was on Car & Classic,

A real glamorous Hollywood car but aren't they all.

Most of the above i guess at some point may just about been obtainable by people on higher normal wages, bit like buying a modern Bentley or a lateish Maserati , but buying and running are poles apart, i almost brought a big bruiser Vantage, but when stuff started to fall off i'd have been F----d!
So i steered clear 95% of the time, Yanks were fun , quick enough to run with most stuff and could be repaired on a budget.

On the Show front all our local Seafront shows have been cancelled again, my local Tankerton Slopes show was a good un , as was Deal and Faversham
But there all Kaput ! Im quite despondent with the lack of any car scene around here, ive mentioned this before but unless your 25 and drive a rice burner and eat a lot of Maccy'D's there really aint anything going on !

Seriously thinking its time to get completely out of it now, ive had a good run, been messing with these things for over 45 years, and after the day ive had today, covered in rust and crap, shards of glass from shattered windscreens , cuts from mangled metal, all the stuff no ones see's on the glossy tv shows, laugh

All real world stuff ,as you say no one see's, Shame about cancelling your local shows, is that the councils over reacting.

Worst part after the 19th it would have been allowed to go ahead, A mate of my nipper's has a You Tube channel and is

not only filming Jap/German /fast Fords at shows over the weekend but evening meets in these commercial shopping areas,

They are rammed even in the rain, Once spoilt for choice now there is almost nothing left and it's only the middle of July,

Looks like the Sunny Sunday Worthing American and Hot Rod show is cancelled no doubt something to do with the council again.

The Mopar meet is still on at the pod so that's something i suppose,Can't see you giving it all up,your just having a wobbly moment,

we all get them from time to time but more often than i used to.,

The problem with these high end cars even when they were affordable is the eye watering cost of parts, tempting for you

as you are capable of repairing all things , If lucky the specialists can get you out of trouble sometimes , they are cheaper but still not cheap

in the real world, Does make you think ,we have all this money tied up in fairly unusable cars ,ended up doing a 450 mile trouble free

round trip yesterday in a £1000 banger, would been nice to have gone in something like a late Bullitt to do those sort of trips in and

still got something to go to the shows especially the ones that are further away..

P5BNij ------ this may be of interest to you and maybe a few others,

Bear with me, On "Ferrari Chat" forum there's a account from pop star Bobby Whitlock (Unfortunately died recently) straight from the horses

mouth when he crashed his Daytona , you feel like you are in the car with him the way he tells it,he was driving home from Keith Moons house

in the early hours ,tales of rock & roll folk law in the early seventies,

during the period when he was with Derek and the Dominos's one of Eric Claptons biggest bands at the time,

It's taken from his face book but is also quoted in his book "A Rock 'N' Roll Autobiography,

I'm sure i've read this on here somewhere with photo's of the damaged car ,don't know how on earth he got out alive,

Can't remember how i got into it in the first place, It might have been on the" Supercar" forum but haven't a clue how to look for it.

Maybe i should have posted this on there instead but i'm sure one of you tech bods can find it if interested.

Yeah, 'getting out of it all' - know where you are coming from. Its the CCCUK Nats this weekend up at Bedford - a 85/90 mile trip from me in the Vette......and I just can't be ass'd to go. TBH the Covid thing still concerns me - meeting up with people from all over the UK (and particularly from further north) just worries me. I didn't bother with Speedfest - the risk of getting caught-up in stationary traffic on the M25 and particularly the Dartford tunnel just made it a no-no for me. Having spent most of my working life driving in London and the south east I'm certainly used to heavy traffic - but only when working - not during my friggin' weekend leisure time. Considered flogging the Vette a number of times and going back to bikes, a Harley chop/low rider was the dream years ago - now one of those SBC powered V8 choppers would be great (if I could hold the thing up) - great thing about cars is that you can't fall-off (unlike a bike) even a prang on a bike doesn't always mean serious injury or death - whereas a plane/copter/microlight, whatever can easily be terminal. Power boats seem to have risks too........

My mate won the class 2 power boat championship 3 years running, took me out for a shakedown at Brixham before the race,

almost cried like a baby i was so scared, bought a Bonito cigarette with twin 350 V8's with straight through exhausts for relaxing in,

looked like something out of Miami Vice, he's now got a Italian power boat with twin V12's which i've yet to see ,he's 65 today so not

a lot of different to us but with boats.

After yesterdays trip i am so off driving long distances any more, two thirds of the M6 from Birmingham to Manchester was road works

under speed limits ,7 mile queue and a hour and a half delay.in fact there was road works everywhere i went, My hat goes off to anyone

now that has to travel for a living especially the lorry drivers, Not sure if we are ready for playing bowls or crocheting class's yet so ye

sell the Vette and maybe replace it with that C6 ,you would be off to the CCC.UK Nats this weekend for sure.

I spoke to him regarding the 60 Caddy, yes he seemed a very nice guy ,got the impression that he's very wealthy but down to earth,

he was fitting a 2nd new hood on it as the first one didn't fit well but he sounds a perfectionist, he also was selling my old 54 Buick Special

convertible at the same time, I know someone who bought his 59 El Camino from him, seems like he's thinning his yanks down in favour

of Rolls and Bentleys as you said. That Packard would have a bigger following in the States and worth more i should think. ,

The boys got a very nice car there,
