It cannot and never will be perfect. It is an affliction an illness. I have the Hellcat, the 66 Mustang and the 65 Griffith plus some other stuff in the mix.
You still cannot stop yourself looking and thinking I really fancy one of those and one of those and one of those.
Should have kept that one and that one and that one smile

Hellcat, id like to have your dilemma ! unfortunately when one has a very limited budget, like me getting the horn over something thats completely out of reach, Like a Lambo, is utterly pointless, which ironically brings us back to the point of this thread!
Very Mediocre yank muscle cars are no longer available to guys like me , five years ago these car were half the price they are now,
If i did'nt have one i'd never be able to join the club........................................................................................

Ask my 2 long suffering ex wives .

When we were young it was so many woman so little time Now it's so many cars so little time especially at my age, .
Wonder if there's a motoring equivalent of the AA for lost causes like us.

With very little action this past summer it's going to be a long long winter.

When something like ill health in the immediate family happens everything you think is important to you goes out the window,
Glad she's ok, kids and pets are so much worry.

My son was admitted to hospital one Christmas day with a suspected heart attack a few years ago when he was only 20.
Took him in as a emergency around 2 am Christmas morning, Sent us home around 5 am, Got back to the hospital around 9 am
and all the nurses and doctors were running around with machines and things and it wasn't till we got into the ward we realised they were around his bed as he was having another attack , Wouldn't want to relive that one yikesagain.

It was like something of casualty. Worst week of my life. Had the T/A , 59 Le Camino and a Suburban at the time and suddenly
you realise that there not as important as you thought.

I had covid back in April ,May pretty bad ,lasted around 3 to 4 weeks,Still get some of symptoma now ,doctor says i will for
maybe a year or so.

The weather was quite sunny but cold today but had to baby sit our poor blind animal as nipper was working.
So bored ,went through the the traditional Christmas auctions lists that are on . Bonhams was yesterday ,they got one more next week and Historic's was today leaving 4 more next week.

A stunning black 59 Caddy Coupe De Ville sold for just shy of £40k . Think i paid £7,500 and £8k for mine and one was a
Eldorado Seville. smash, E Types seem to have taken a hit. a 65 series 1 F.H.C in silver blue , Eagle restoration 9 years ago with
very little use with some nice bits sold for £74,500 including premium ,there still out there asking £125k/£175k.

Historic's had a lot of yanks, some at no reserve from the same collection , 2 convertible Mustangs sold at sensible money i thought.,
Had 202 cars and a few bikes.

There was a Gallardo there,it didn't sell which is not encouraging but it had covered 92k miles with that horrible E-Gear.

Got wind of a MK2 2.4 with a 4.2 lump with some nice bits on it , May go and have a look next week, not on my
shopping list as had one a couple of years ago ,ye another 2.4 with a 4.2 ,thought that would be rare.
Wouldn't bother if it was a standard car but a Jag Hot Rod appeals to my eclectic sense of humour if
only to wind the matching numbers tweeds up, still got it's 2.4 badges on,that will confuse them even more when you pull
away from them.

It's in South Wales so got to get my finger out before they lock it down again.
What with that and Edinburgh could do with a Helicopter.

Tell i'm bored, just wrote another SA again. sorry

Good grief that must have been scary with ya boy!
i trust he made a full recovery ,

Pretty sure i had Covid back in February, knocked me for six! i had every symptom but couldn't have possibly had it as i'd not been in F-----g China :furious

It damaged my lungs without doubt, all the people that poo poo it, will know when it knocks on there front door !

Yeah saw some of the prices are taking a knock, but the time of year must be playing a part i'd i thought??
Ive had most of this week off, finished all our shopping, and generally had a break, done some shooting, and had a rest from old cars!

Ive almost finished the Taunus , i'l get it the point where the owner (who's another manager at my work and a buddy!) he can then come in over Christmas and play with it........................ he's so pleased with it, keeps walking around it sighing laugh

He's ok now, thanks for asking. He contracted a virus that attacked his heart which gave similar symptoms as a heart attack.
He was in hospital for 5 days and was on morphine , They were worried that it may have damaged his heart .

He had a full medical 6 months later and said he should be ok.

I think i remember you saying you had covid,as you say ,not good if you are unlucky enough to get bad.

Certain cars are holding up and some have nose dived , like the 59 Caddy, can't remember last one i saw at a auction
It looked stunning, perfect chrome which is so important on them, wide whites with the black, very gangster ,

Dare i say it i would have left it alone apart from air ride and maybe take a silencer away just to give it a slight burble
but nothing like open headers or Carlos Fandango wheels, The hub caps are perfect with the white walls.
With 202 entries i think Historic's flooded their own market probably didn't help..

With Brexit resurrected itself again along with Covid, lock downs, weather and Christmas, creepy sleepy Joe Biden in the the States you
can use them all or individually as excuses or reasons why it's turned to scensoredt

Nice to keep on the wright side of your manager even if he is a mate, you've done all the hard work ,all he's got to
do is detail it which can be enjoyable if no pressure.

Have you noticed how quiet the American Cars forums on here has been lately,
Being a niche market it never was that busy ,maybe a couple of threads a day, sometimes four but i noticed that it can
go on for a few days with nothing ,

The Super Car forum has always got a lot to say for itself but even that is quieter than usual.
Is it just that it's winter or with everything going on maybe lack of interest.

New super cars are like NASCAR ,they drive round in circles in Sloane Square instead of a track.
Most wear them opposed to driving them.never leaving London.

London seems to be the only place you will see them parked on the streets of Mayfair and Chelsea other wise they are
usually found tucked up in their garages with the owners driving their leased brand new Merc's Range Rovers and BMW's to the office,

The classic ones have all the problems associated with all old cars, and ye probably find them tucked up in their bubble
somewhere in Sunningdale.

You wouldn't believe how many are being hidden away in these storage facility's all over UK. more for investments than passion.

There are thousands of them sitting getting dusty in specialists being worked on or awaiting collection.
The owners never seem to be in a hurry to collect them for some reason.

.The days of temperamental super cars are over, Most can and do use them daily, with the semi auto you can even drive them in London.

30 years ago even the new cars were typically unreliable in the usual Italian fashion. The buyers are different now and wouldn't put up with it.

Many many years ago i tried to do a rolling restoration on a Espada as i didn't want to take it off the road completely,
bit off more than i could chew and reluctantly gave up , It was like a Meccano kit when i sold it It was a series one so had those gorgeous Miura knock off wheels,

I'd get more for just one wheel now than i got for the whole car.

Apart from this year i've tried to get to as many shows as possible including the odd super car show or track day,

In a sea of the latest Lambo's, McLaren's and Ferrari's someone will always make a grand entrance in a old skool

Miura, Daytona or 250 swb and completely steel the show with the attention immediately switching to the classics

as if the modern stuff wasn't even there. Even the owners of them are a different breed ,real characters who don't seem to take themselfs to seriously unlike a lot of the newer super car drivers.

Getting back to yanks, my mate who sold all 3 of his Falcons bought a 64 convertible Falcon last week, didn't think it would take him long.
talking about heaters that work he had a look today to find out why his heater didn't work only to find a big gap where the
heater matrix was. typical California car ,no washers either .

PS That 69 Road Runner in the auction yesterday sold for £42k plus, thought that was mad until i saw a another
on "Car And Classic today for £82k ,383 not even a 440 ,confused

It's coming clear that people with money don't want to get their hands dirty and will pay top money if ready to go cos
they can, probably wouldn't pay half that if it needed some work. The black 59 Caddy is a good example of that.

Agree that the cost of the work and purchase price on that Road Runner would outweigh the money it fetched,
I was surprised i liked it as much as i did as i prefer muscle cars either in original colours or something a bit sinister,

A little bit overdone under the bonnet but you couldn't change it. would be a shame to undo all that detailing.

If you can get away with anything outrageous it's going to be on a yank.

My mate gave me his Corniche convertible to sell for him when he returned to Ibiza, It was one of two cars factory painted in
Magenta ,like the TR6 ,Stag colour, with magnolia leather piped in magenta with magenta carpets piped again in magnolia then
add a magnolia hood to the mix.

Never got a good reception in a Roller not even in a £3k Shadow that needed a repaint but everybody loved this car, instead of being completely ignored everybody wanted to be your friend.
No one gave me the finger or the wker sign people would wave, even blokes well i think they were blokes, It would never fail to start a conversation up.Even young ladies would chat to me, In this colour i think they thought i was gay and would be safe.

Hood down and in such a vivid colour it looked like you didn't take yourself to seriously and couldn't give a fcensoredk.

It was special order for Billy Smart ,the sister car was in Historic's auction this Saterday just gone,

My mate lived in Ibiza and drove it around there for about 5 years, the more outrageous the better over there.

Might be worth a stab with a cheeky ad on the Challenger, would look sensible at say £35/39k compared to the plum crazy one.

I know what you mean by that dilemma ,i've been there a few times, almost a panic just in case they may buy it.

With me it all depends whether i got something better waiting in the wings, Did that with the sublime Challenger,

A London cabby came down to see it and to my horror he wanted to buy it, agreed a deal but i refused a deposit

He got a ear bashing from his tiny wife(he was 6ft 6") on the way home as he had not long sold his mint Challenger and she couldn't
understand why he would buy a lesser one and spend money getting it up the standard to the one he sold, Got a call the next day

with a very nervous apologetic voice wanting to cancel the deal as his wife was still giving him loads of stick,
To his relief I was so pleased as i was on the edge of phoning him to cancel the deal as i was finding it hard to part with it.

Funny how the cars you love sell easy and the ones you really want gone seem to take forever.

Great story, lol................... thinking back ive probably had some similar ear bashings in the past!

Well this week has been a Bit-- went down with a Stomach virus on Monday , Christ turned me inside out! Just starting to feel human again,
lost 10lbs!

One good thing This week was a Clay Shoot we used to use all the time till it was closed down due to noise complaints, (some utter knob brought a house not far from the shoot , then complained to the council ! ,) got its operating license back!
so is now up and running again , so in all this crap and confusion there still is some hope that common sense is still with us...............

Ok, back to cars!

So RR whats the SP regarding your Lambo replacement?? still erring on the Vette Deal?

Ive been pondering my position, and in all honestly i cant see how i'l be better off with some other car, The TA's are realistically out of reach
plus theres no way im capable of a rerun of the Dodge Resto, its was just so difficult to do at home in such a confined space,
Ive been looking back through the Hundreds of pics i took as it went through the mill, its very easy to forget the time and effort once something is completed ? the images take one back laugh

And quite frankly it was horrifying! Nah enough now .......................................................

Thought you died, sounds like you almost did, That sort of bug really drains you,As you said at least you lost some weight
just in time to put it back on over Christmas, but could think of better ways of loosing it though.

The sooner you put the finishing touch's to the Challenger the better, once she's done you won't ever think about getting involved
in another project or god forbid sell her nono

I could never take on what you did, not capable of taking on such a large task, don't mind doing smaller jobs like clutches ,brakes and
servicing but nothing that takes much more than a week or so.

We all know the only car that would be worth you starting again would be.,then hopefully a part restoration not a full one.

At least you got your clay shooting back, just in time for that extra time Christmas ,at least her indoors knows where you are,
not chasing yummy mummies or propping up a bar.

These tiny woman are like tiny dogs, my last ex wife was really small but boy did she know how put people in their place,
Scary stuff , I 'm of the opinion that as long as you put a roof over the family's head ,feed and cloth them with the odd bunch of flowers or box of chocolates what car i have or want has nothing to do with them.

Probably why i've ended up with 2 ex/ wives . must admit i could do with a little lady this time of year , Like most men haven't got
a glue about shopping or what presents to buy, perhaps i could borrow someones wife for a few hours.

Just got back from Swansea from collecting the MK2 Hot Rod, trailered it back as has no rad hoses , it's got a new aluminium
rad and what with the 4.2 shoe horned in needs 1 or 2 jobs to finish it.

Poor guys owned it for 13 years ,8 of them modifying and restoring it then gets made redundant at 61, along with his wife always hating
it she had to go ,car not wife. she much prefer's the MG B he's left with.

So i know what i'll be doing all over Christmas.

PS ,C1 deal still on the cards ,just got to get my ass up to the north and get that book stamped and still waiting for parts,
phoned dealer and factory has been flooded due to unusually heavy rain add Christmas shutdown and just heard tonight that Italy
is on lockdown again so anyones guess when i get my bits. banghead

Gave a little mention about not much happening on the American Forum last week, next day there was 4 or 5 post's but not much since
I only do American and the Super car forums as is my love for everything Italian, just as well haven't got time for all of them and bearing
in mind i'm dyslexic and still typing with one finger i'd never get to bed.

There locking down Wales on the 28th so thought better get my finger out, Got the old 2.4 engine ,Moss box ,axle and just about every thing else with the MK2 so convoyed up yesterday with the tow truck plus large van ,

Not so visual as the last one, i had ,that was more like the one you done for your boss, Sherwood green with body coloured competition lace wires ,they looked more Italian , bit like Borrani's, louvered bonnet and coombs spats, but apart from rack a pinion steering upgrade wasn't that exciting mechanically,

This one's in silver blue with new chrome wires .so more bank robber than Goodwood.

Series 2 XJ 6 4.2 motor on twin SU's with meshed trumpets so nice induction sound, Series 1 XJ6 overdrive box with 3.8 power lock diff. Aluminium rad, new lowered suspension ,steering and 4 pot brakes so should stop and handle well lightened flywheel, stainless exhaust and the most beautiful period wood rim wheel, got the original so could add it to my wall collection,

Chrome all new and lovely interior but paint not quite so good as green one, going to try a mop as it was painted 4 years ago so nice
and hard also got the louvered bonnet and Coombs spats, even got original tool kit, guy says the 44k miles is correct
but now it's messed with don't think it matters, he'was only the third owner so mileage could be wright who knows.

Don't know what it is with me and 2'4's but before these MK2's i had a MK1 2'4 with a 3'4 lump, ex California car converted from L.H.D,
Unusual colour in garnet with colour coded wires, louvered bonnet and Coombs spats again with straight through exhaust,

Went past "Wizzo Williams on the Chichester bypass coming back from Goodwood , he was in his van towing his race Moggy , i was out of revs in 3rd and he was laughing with big thumps up out of his window , bless him. The car now races at Goodwood events still in the same colour.

When my nipper bought a TR6 a few years back i went to a charity shop and bought him a flat cap and tweed jacket along with a fake moustach so i will have to borrow them off him. my new look ready for the Members meeting in May, Boris permitting.

Said yesterday that police were turning none local cars back from Scotland who were on what they would consider none essential journeys , so may have missed my window , said it's going to last 3 weeks so will have to check, too fare to drive only to be turned back.

Not going to tell you about the Dart on RnS now you decided to treat the Challenger to it's upgrades , I expect you've seen it already.

Better start talking yank tanks before i get thrown off this forum.

I had to use the Hellcat for a coupe of weeks whilst the Brembos off of the Lightning were being refurbished. New seals, bleed nipples, caliper plates and recoated etc. They've done 16 years on five trucks and were starting to bind a little. New discs fitted at the same time. They last about 100,000 miles and are £1200 to replace. Spent last weekend minting the Challenger back up and putting it away for as long as the roads are being salted.
Amusingly I learnt to drive and took my test in a 1960 MK11 3.4 in sherwood green. Back then they were smashing them up on the Sweeney every week. My uncles car. Every now and again I get a hankering for a MK11 and I thought about buying one this summer. I went to look at the metallic grey car that Silverstone Auctions had and thought best leave it as a memory for the moment. That car made big money. £95k plus commision I think.
Then a mutal good friend in the Porsche world offered me a beautiful 356A. Never driven one before. What a wonderful little car. I've done about 1200 miles in it since July and you never feel like you need to rush in it although it will happily cruise above the limit. Just enjoy the time behind the wheel.
Met up with a lovely guy on Wednesday by the name of Neil. He owns the sister car to my 356A coupe. A cabriolet that wears the next consecutive reg number to mine. Hopefully its restoration will be completed by the summer and we can get some pictures of the two cars next to each other again after 62 years.
Did a test day this week at Donington with the Mustang. I wanted Henry Mann to drive the car before we do some work on it. Get a feel for before and after. Dry but bloody cold and no dry line before the afternoon. But a very worthwhile day.
Work finishes on Wednesday and it will be a bloody boring Christmas. That said the main thing is to keep well and keep smiling smile

Nutters, you summed that up well, what we think as normal, car wise anyway, none car people must think we have a problem
and they could be wright. Why is my brother on his 3rd black Golf, never cleans it or parks it in his empty garage,as long as his golf clubs and trolley fit he's a happy chappy.

Tried boats but to much hassle and expence for something you use so little, much prefer to go on other people's and let them
have the problems, might be different if i lived somewhere hot, always fancied living on a boat now the kids are gone, a bit like
Sonny Crockett but without the cricodile,

You know all about that coming from a boating background, I think the answer would be combine a hobby within a business of repairing and servicing them like you did, As well as your own boats you can take your customers out for a test drive and get paid for it
Some of the eye watering bills my mates get are like running a Formula one team and they wasn't even allowed to go near them though the 3 mouth lockdown with all that lovely weather.

A MK 1 Cortina for £500, Is there a zero missing but even that would seem cheap, a V5 must be worth that to someone .
Must be a scam or a story to it,if not needs looking into,

Crazy prices these Fords now, To help the sale along i took a 65 Lotus Cortina in p/ex on a 29 Riley Brooklands but really wasn't fussed
either way, allowed him £10,500 and sold it to a mate the next day for £12,500 ,convinced i was going to loose on it so thought i swam
the channel at the time. He's had the last laugh as he still owns it , keep asking him does he want a profit on it. never get a answer out of him just a smug look.smokin

SRT Hellcat said:
Sounds like your still enjoying life SRT Hellcat, Never driven Donington , just that bit to far unless for a weekend, Silverstone and Castle Coombe about as far as i need to go these days. Talking about Henry Mann i'm sure a mate of mine ,Mad Mick sold a really nice Falcon convertible to them , think it was white with red hood from memory but might be wrong.

Sounds like you had your money's worth out of those Brembo's lets hope they last you another 16 years, Prefer those lightning to the
Rams, a lot rarer ,for a while everybody seem to be driving Rams, remember Mark coming down in his bright red SRT 10 truck
,thought it was the fire chief, Think he had a white 993 on the back he just bought from Meridian.

Funny you learnt to drive in a Sherwood green MK 2, it's quite a rare colour, everybody went for B.R.G, I to learnt to drive in a
MK 1 3.4 and a MK1 Healey 3000 but only being 14 my dad took me up to the disused aerodromes in the New Forest, got stopped
once by the forestry warden and was told if i want to speed i should go back on the road, they later put cement blocks on the straights
making chicanes which made it even more fun, My dad once let me drive almost all the way home until we got to the built up area, looks like i was doomed with this disease from the start .

I had 3 356's though the years, 2 early 60's L.H.D cars and a 65 C R.H,D car ,.must of been one of last, didn't really appreciate them then,
remember thinking how much more modern they felt making a Healey or even a E Type feel a little vintage.

Probably enjoy one now more than then as i always wanted the fastest but now i'd be happy at just over the speed limit.
Keep my license longer as well.

£95k plus commission yikes for a MK 2, WOW. making me feel much better about what i payed, Although now a Hot Rod it will
never appeal to the matching number brigade. got all the bits to turn it back to what it should be but where would the fun be in that.

Got 2 grand children and seemed to have gained 2 more as my elder son has moved in with his girlfriend who has 2 boys so will
spend some time with them over Christmas ,if i'm allowed by Boris ,then can see me under the MK 2 doing all the fiddly jobs that is left.

Apart from the dailys, being OCD all cars are now polished and covered up till the roads around us dry out, more mud than salt, may take
the rattier out of the 2 rods for a blast over the festivities as there's no paint to polish anyway.

Looking on the bright side i'd rather be locked up now than the summer ,they will have to chain me to the wall if this isn't fixed by then.
