Blimey ive no idea what its was up for back then! completely lost track of what i paid and what i sold it for , i do remember the odd one only because of related events??? Brought a 74 318 Challenger Rally in 82' from a Squaddie who was being shipped aboard, it was in Vinters Park Maidstone,
nice clean car, apart from the interior was covered in multi colour silly string from his wedding day a few weeks earlier , we agreed around 900 quid, left a deposit, however when i went to pay and collect, to my horror and his the car had been hit by a VW Beetle and smashed the drivers door, front quarter, and the rear quarter! it did look sad , he offered to return my cash, as he was leaving in a couple of days we had a deal and i brought it with the damage!
500 quid and drove i home, yet another project laugh

Second hand front wing, no AMD stuff back then! repaired the rest, fitted a RR Shadow front spoiler, which fitted a treat, fresh yellow paint, she looked fab! another car i remember selling was a white 75 TA Auto, lovely car, quick clean, no issue's this sticks in my mind coz the buyer had a stunning looking girlfriend! absolute babe, genuinely sorry to see that one go down the road, thought you lucky sod, youve got my motor and that stunner sitting on ya B-lls .............................................. i remember sighing as i closed the front door ........................
Ye the dreaded sigh, remember doing that a few times, sometimes have been lucky enough to buy that special car back again,

just got to be patient. We could write a book on our exploits and bore people to death instead of on here.

For a minute i thought you were going to say a Rolls Royce grille .Thought £900 was silly cheap even then, but £500 ,almost half.

I could remember every car, how much, where i bought it, colour, who i sold it to and for how much but could never remember anything

important like birthdays, anniversaries or what i did yesterday but memory not so good now,

[quote=SRT Hellcat]That Galaxie looks to be a cheap car if it all stacks up. Looks very nice.
I think a lot of people want something that looks different compared to the sea of boring vehicles we have to choose from today.
Legislation seems to have wiped out styling.
There is a bunch of us that occasionaly when allowed run around together named SPG Smiles Per Gallon.
An eclectic mix of american and hot rods.
Quite a few Vettes. Probably a dozen.
Vaughan has a beautiful metallic grey C2 coupe that is well known.
From what I have been told the Corvette club tend to rope themselves off at shows and not talk to non vette owners.
Not sure how true that is but that is why we have quite a few Vettes that run with us as they cannot be bothered with all that nonsense.
[/quote
Seen the grey C2 at different places, stunning colour ,even looks ok with the shinny wheels which i don't normally like

Forgot to ask you about the SPG you mentioned and in which part of the country it's held, Thanks

That's if Boris ever lets us out again.

Blimey i only got 1750 for a 78' Bandit, that i'd bare metaled repainted, in black with decal delete , remember that one as i sold it in the dark????
the buyer drove down from Medway, and i took him up to our newly opened Tesco's which had a big gas station , he brought it , paid cash and left his other car outside my house!
That was 89' sold that coz my first kid was on the way and had to get a sensible car with 4 doors ...........................

Yanks went Stellar a few years back, my RM 23 440, scruffy but sounds and drove great, came barreling down the Brenzet road when i brought it home from Hastings, summer 2011, paid 9500 for that car.............................. Started the restoration on the car, trunk floor, drops off's some floor work, rear lower panel, all the rest was very good, A and B post were like new, all the structural done, only to find myself out of work early 2012, so i sold it , it made 12000! Talking about sack of stes - a good few years back we bought a 70' Mustang rap top as a daily driver or 'er indoors. It was rollin' resto' type car being sold in the UK by the nephew of the person who originally bought it. Original owner had moved over to the USA in the late 60's and bought it brand new. Only a Brit could do this (thinking about it a Dutchman or Belian would have done this too). It was fully loaded (kinda) - so convertible, Pony interior, and other interior options. From here on it went badly wrong with manual steering, drum brakes, 3 speed manual and 6 banger engine. First time driving it and initially impressed with acceleration (up to 10 mph) then had to change gear. It was horrible to drive and immediately decided to sell it on..........much a few years earlier a 4 door Ford Falcon with 3 speed 6 banger - 'kin horrible thing to drive.
How on earth did you go from those two to what can only be described as a missile on wheels.

First part was OK , a 70 Mustang convertible with interesting history but after that it all went down hill.

drum brakes, no power steering, 3 speed manual, 6 pot ,must have been a sunny day when you bought it and it went to your head,

That was after a 4 door (taxi) 6 pot 3 speed manual Falcon as well.

Your a brave man confessing all this on a forum , Still you've more than made up for it now ,

Funny part both those cars now have some value to them now
If we ever get let out to play again i'd love to have a ride in your Vette, i have followed it on the CCCUK and R&S for quite a while,
Sure i saw it by the bridge on one of the Chelsea cruises a few years back.
Edited by rat rod on Friday 8th January 17:35
'70 Mustang Vert was in fairness 30 years ago - bought it at what seemed the right price unseen, towed it back home on a dolly trailer - it was that first and only drive - (every driven an FX4 London Taxi?) - much like that, seriously agricultural and just like a London taxi serious quick on acceleration (well, up to 10 mph anyway) - anyway someone was happy to buy, restore it and bung-in a 302 in to the pos. Falcon - I never drove that either - bought it probably 45 years ago for £30 with a knocking 'end' - the local Hillbilly twins bought anything American and cheap, used it for a year or so with the 'end' knocking. They were known as the Hillbilly's not because they looked, dressed and lived like hillbillys (in a urban environement) but because they lived in Hill Crescent (and coincidently looked and lived like hillbillies) - would love to see some inages of your rat rod.........

Most of the guys and girls are from in and around West London. It really is just a bunch of car people with an eclectic mix of cars. Mostly V8's of one sort or another. Rat Rods, Hot Rods all sorts of stuff. A bright yellow 105E with a just rebuilt 454 in it which is a really cool great car. A really great pop with a 632 and the same guy has a wonderful 100E with a 572 in it. Ran 9.6 at 138 first time out at the Pod. Pre covid we would meet once a month at a pub in Iver and then get together at various shows. I think the only one I went to last year was at the Sharnbrook and I cannot see this year being much different at the moment frown

Once upon a time what is now (and has been since that AH Kahn put in the East/West cycle routes) a massive void between East London and West London has made (for me anyway) journeys to Chelsea Cruise and Crispy Kreem's really difficult - the 'uncertainty' of the M25 and the seemingly constant eveing road closures on the North Circular even makes the Cafe a challenge. Speedfest at Brands Hatch for me is theoretically a doddle, and barely 35 miles.........but try that in the height of summer and the inevitable stop/start traffic and the ever present threat of overheating..........

Thanks for the info SRT Hellcat, Sounds like a nice mix , wright up my street, like the sound of the 105E and 100E .

If the meets are still going to be held at Iver or anywhere near there i'm about a hour away south,

Might be something to look forward to with Spring on the way .

Last time out apart from popping into Goodwood to see what was going on was a Hindhead tunnel run towards

the end of the summer but that gets a bit boring after turning round over and over again to go back through.

They could have made it longer.

Not liking this Kahn fellow already, sound like he's doing more damage than good.

Sounds like i would have a easier time getting to the Ace or Chelsea than you and i am around 75 miles away.

Never seem to make Brands for some reason, Thruxton is right on my doorstep and Silverstone and Castle Coombe are slightly longer mileage wise but easier to get to .

Lets hope we will get the all clear by Spring , If not i can see myself in a WW 1 Sopwith landing at the circuits.

Would love to put some images up of the rat rod and the roadster ,would have done by now but not tech minded , still using one finger, takes me hours to post.

Also i have a Google Chrome book not a laptop or computer, which i can only surf on and E Mail as it won't download images

i've been told, My son said it wound be easier to find my way round being a beginner.

Same phone wise, i've only got a old Nokia , with two keys, one for hello and the other for good-bye, that's as much

as i can manage, perhaps that's why i like old cars.

Bit late to give advise now but sounds like you should have kept away from woman, You would have a nice collection by now

what with the 57 T/bird as well, You and me both, I had nothing on my first divorce so she had half of that,

Second divorce cost me the best and i mean best Ram Cobra ever, factory built by Ram as their display vehicle for the international

Motor Show, Jaguar B.R.G almost black with one white center stripe with a thinner stripe each side, black leather not magnolia

like most replica's are, correct s/wheel and gauges gear lever ,single rollbar and a 383 stroker built in the States especially for that car on

correct age related plate then followed by my 308 GTS Carb model .weeping She always said hope you are polishing my half of the Ferrari.

Like you i wondered around in the wilderness for a while licking my wounds with things like TR 6 's ,then a chrome bumper C3 Vette

in red came along and reminded me of a Ferrari GTO in part, Apart from a long term gold digger ex/ girlfriend who left with what

she bought with her NOTHING . I now keep away from them, to old to start again. nono

At least i got to keep the house and custody of the kids although it did cost me at the time.

If only we could do it all over again, probably make the same mistakes but with different woman.

See quite a few venue's have a list, very optimistic but suppose you have to be if running as a business,

Haven't been to pod for a while, hate all the queuing to get in then out but if it's on i will make the effort this year.

See Goodwood list is up, Members meeting in May, bit soon to tell but hope that goes ahead,

Much better than the Revival, cars after 1966 allowed ,70's ,80's ,less crowds, don't have to dress up like a clown

although a lot of people enjoy that part, and you can go anywhere you like not like the Revival.

Not a member but have always managed to get tickets.

Seemed ok at the time, hindsight and all that, we'd probably all do stuff differently ???

Ive never made Goodwood, done The Pod and few times, living were i do almost everywhere is a mission to get to now, the M25 is a bit like the Berlin Wall, it has to be breached before one can access the rest of the UK! ...................

And as Rosco says, the amount of road closures mean night travel now is a nightmare, hate London in a car, cant think how bad it would be in the Dodge!
Nah thats not happening, Speedfest is ok for me, the M20 generally aint to terrible,

There's no car scene down here to speak of, theres a few shows dotted around the coast , so they may be back on this year? There's one meet through the summer down in Birchington , very well attended, good parking, and Fish and Chips by sea!
The wife and i look forward to it, hopefully it will be back!..........................................

Almost zero yanks though, theres a few but not many, and deffo no proper Muscle Cars, think thats why the Dodge get some much attention ,
its just different laugh

Im pretty much on the outside though, dont have any friends that still have toy cars, they have mostly given up, moved away etc, so any social side is non existent , which is a shame, we used to do a few pub runs, think i must be a bit odd, ive never flitted from one pass time to another, had yanks since i was 18, and been shooting since i was 16, god knows how many times ive renewed my Firearms/Shotgun Certificates! laugh

Im glad ive got my shooting buddies, we still have a laugh and some banter !

Don't fix it if it's not broken, if that's what your happy and best at that's what's important,

Like you i've been car mad since i was born, and haven't veered to other interests,

but my taste has changed time to time, problem is i'm never going to be happy with just one type of car,

wish i could life would be a lot easier.

Seriously got into yanks around 25 years ago so late starter compared to you,

Holley, hurst, small block , 4 on the floor all a new language to me, picked it up like a sponge very quickly.

Turned by back on all the European , British classics and went head first into anything yanky.

Now try to have a balance between the two for the sake of my eclectic brain.

Lucky living here, as there's always pre covid something going on car wise with a strong American scene in the Porsmouth and Bournemouth area.

But we still got our traffic problems especially in the holiday season being so close to the beaches,

Apart from the weather changing it's nice when they've all gone home.

2 hours is as far as i want to go for a show ,the Bristol show and Billing is just about wright distance,

If i could have done the whole weekend bit i may have travelled further a field.

Not a religious person but i am praying for a return to Wheels day,So much better before the restrictions on numbers

and pre-booking nonsense but still worth going and it's only half an hour away.

Was going to work on the Jag but to cold and i got some hungry animals to feed so that can wait.

I think that Wheels Day (until 'invite' only started) as a season opener was really great despite the issues getting-in and out. Goodwood is a fair distance and other than once getting a freeby ticket from the revival from GM I never went again. With 'pre-booking' now seeming the norm for many events its difficult if you get up early in the morning, its a great day and decide you want to go to a show. RR have you ever considered taking the Rod to the Kop Hill climb at Princes Risborough. Fantastic all the family two day event and you'll get two runs up the hill. The whole town partakes in one day or another and they love really quirky vehicles like aero engined cars. I got a roasting from the clerk of the course one year after the rear end of the Vette got a bit lively off the line and the rear wheels sprayed the audience with mud and grass from the grass verge.......

Ha Ha i bet that was funny to watch, all the tweeds getting covered in mud, Did anyone get it on film.

No i've never been ,watched it on You Tube , There's been a 32 for sale on R&S and the NSRA and he's included a in and out of the car

You Tube going up the hill, looks loads of fun.

I love those aero engined vintage monsters ,all those flames exploding out of short headers along with the smell and sounds

pure theatre, Looks like a vast variety of cars ,something for everbody and a great day out

I assume you have to pre-book if you want to go up the hill,

Now you got to pre-pay and book for Wheels day at least it's eased the traffic problem.

Apparently the locals complained to the council who in turn complained to the police then they restricted to

around 500 cars which must have been a quarter of the normal, now it's back to around 1500 or more.

Started going when it was at Brooklands, Great way to start the season and bump into old faces .

Only missed one Rivival since it started in 1968 , I went on holiday ,my stupid girlfriend booked it

the same time , I remember sulking on the beach over that weekend.

I think she moved out shortly afterwards , At least she won't do that again.

It's got to popular and get all the hooray Henry's there now, seems to be the place to be seen

like Royal Ascot and Henley Regatta , a lot of them go straight into the bars for their Champagne and strawberries

and cream and don't even watch the racing,

When you think people come from all over the world ,it would be rude not to go as i'm not far from there.

The members meeting is so much better, it's like the Revival was in the early days, with proper car people.

That's the one , If genuine Z28 which it seems to be , cheapest i've seen for a long time that's not

been left in a field for 20 years, Lesser standard cars that look in worse condition are up for more.

Unless there's a hidden horror story that shouldn't be there long,Probably jinxed it now.
