What watch for £2500?
Discussion
Hi,
I'm a watch newbie and looking to spend roughly £2500 or under. It will be worn day-to-day at work, and on the weekends. I've bought watches in the past with quartz movement e.g. the Odd Casio and Armani but I am looking to spend more money on an automatic watch from a respectable brand, something which won't plummet in value. New or second hand it doesn't bother me, as long as it's decent nick. I don't like metal bracelets and would prefer rubber or leather
Now onto watch design, I know Rolex are out of my price range, and although I can appreciate the classic design, it's not something which appeals to me. I want something which looks a bit more modern, and have spotted these preowned Tudor Grantours below which I like the look of, on Watchfinder:
Is Tudor a good brand? The second watch is less than a year old, and it's up for £2525 (it retails at £3200). Am I just going to lose my money if I buy something like this?
Are there are other watches which look similar to these? Over to you lads

If you like Tudor, then the Black Bay Heritage models are nice (and well-regarded - basically a sister brand to Rolex):I'm a watch newbie and looking to spend roughly £2500 or under. As advised above, if re-sale is a concern then buying second hand makes most sense, unless you can achieve a decent discount (try Dominic at Hackett Watches!).
Following on the recommendation to speak to Dom Hackett who I can endorse from personal experience, what about this:

Some brands you may not have heard of or been aware of, but still worth considering. I’ve presumed you’re only interested in chronographs, even though they’ll cost more to service and can make the watch look cluttered… and a function/feature you’ll not bother with after the first 5 minutes of ownership!
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/carlfbucherer/carl-f--p...
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/pequignet/chronographe-... – available on strap and with a lovely blue dial, but the value proposition is to buy on bracelet and buy a strap/clasp separately since leather will need replaced every few years or sooner, depending on how well you maintain it. Rubber straps often need trimmed to fit, so a subsequent buyer (and yourself) may need a new one before they can even start wearing it.
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/eterna/-royal-kontiki-c... – twin-register on the right, which has mins and hours for the chrono.
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/montblanc/meisterstueck... – plenty of funds left to service and/or get a strap/clasp for it.
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/montblanc/timewalker--i...
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/frederiqueconstant/fc-3...
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/bremont/alt1-cs1-chrono...
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/ebel/1911-btr-chronogra... – not a small watch, so wrist size/shape will dictate if this would look fine or humungous. No denying its pedigree and the Zenith El Primero movement.
If you can dispense with the chronograph aspect, then I’d recommend this, and a rubber strap/clasp – https://www.chrono24.co.uk/chopard/luc-sport-2000-... – the bracelet alone retails for circa £2K
Bottom line, buy what you like and just enjoy it. It costs what it costs when/if you decide to change it for something else in the future.

That's bloody lovely, and that from someone who doesn't usually like BreitlingsI would chime in with the others saying go down the used route.
I bought this 8 years ago and it is still the same value or a bit more.

A lot of the so called quality brands have been acquired by more mainstream ones and in a £2500 watch you might be getting something diminished by mass production and large marketing budgets.
I personally would like to think the older ones might have been hand assembled by someone with a droopy moustache, surrounded by cuckoo clocks whilst yodeling!

Those giant numerals make it look like a toy watch to me. I would look for a speedmaster if I were the op. £500 over-budget but nice-looking

Best daily watch in my opinion is the Omega Seamaster. I've had mine since 1999, never been serviced, doesn't miss a beat when I wear it. 2nd hand comes well within your budget with different faces / metals / bezels and even a chronology
I own two Omegas, a Dark Side of the Moon and a Planet Ocean. Both have stopped working at some point, the former when about 6 months old. Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
