Another recommendation for Moleskine. WHSmith currently have various styles on 'sale' and Amazon are usually quite cheap aswell.

Damn pistonheads.

It reminded me my love for watches. Taught me I can actually afford nice watches.
It reminded my desire to own a fountain pen with a refillable ink sac and reminded me the simple pleasure of writing on nice paper.

Just bought a cheap Wing Sung 840 aeromatic fountain pen to see if I can get on with it.
This lead to the purchase of a bottle of red Quink ink and a Black n' Red Casebound Hardback 90gsm A4 notebook.

Damn you! Maybe it'll make the prospect of many afternoons of maths studies over my christmas break a little more desirable?

Looks alright for £7! (http://www.andys-pens.co.uk/ws028.shtml)

Hopefully I'll like the red ink. When doing pages and pages of revision notes etc. I start to think my handwriting looks even more scruffy in black. Usually stick to blue, find it far more pleasing to the eye... red will hopefully have the same effect, and be a little different. I'll get a green bottle too if I get on with the fountain pen - not used one since primary school!

Being left handed using a fountain pen meant getting ink all over the paper and the side of my hand. Get a Bic and buy beer with the change.
Do jewellers sell beer?
If they did they would probably be the best jewellers in the world laugh

confused How do lefties manage to write with a fountain pen? Are there special nibs or non-smudge ink?

I've seen them write with their left arm curved so that the line or last few lines remain below their arm, so the ink should have dried by the time the arm passes over the written words.

For me, pretty much this, plus a bit of careful angling of the page to achieve much the same effect.

Lamy Al-Star here, with a LH nib (though I'm not convinced how much difference the nib actually makes)

I was given a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck gold fountain pen as a present for graduating. I was sceptical of them before this due to the plastic casing feeling a bit cheap compared to my Cross ball point. I am now however a convert and enjoy using it as often as possible.

I can see this going the same way as shaving after reading the multi blade razor thread...I'm £100 in on that one.

I'm going to need a pen for starting college and tempting myself into getting something fancy.

Kind of agree with this too, although not to the extent where I'd need a forum, I don't have that sort of money, yet.

As posted in the frivolous thread, courtesy of Amazon, I fancied a cheap purple/violet combo to go with my black Safari so . . .

Picked up a disposable Pilot 'V Pen' fountain pen the other day and also ordered a Moleskine notebook.

Practicing with the V Pen before I purchase a proper fountain pen.

Hi JAGS, unfortunately Moleskine is rubbish paper for fountain pens. You'll want better quality paper than Moleskine, so the ink doesn't feather or bleed through.

I used the V Pen + Moleskine combo today for the first time. You are right about the ink bleeding through:

What a load of rubbish about the Moleskine being great to write on etc.

What would you (and others) recommend as a proper alternative?

You could try Black & Red, Clairefontaine or Rhodia note books. Ryman normally stock some of these.

Thanks SVS. Will give the Clairefontaine and Rhodia books a go. Will go through the Moleskine one first.

In other news, took delivery of a Dunhill Sentryman Carbon Fibre Rollerball pen today. Loving the feel of it and it is a delight to look at. Great weight and very nice to hold when writing. Have a Fountain Pen version on request. If it turns up at the retailer, it'll be headed my way immediately. Will update if/when it arrives.

Pics of the pen:

The detailing on the pen is stunning! Keep on getting drawn to the carbon weave...
