This could go on and on if I try to have a watch from the same year as each car or motorbike...

But I sell cars and bikes as well as buy them. I have never sold any watch, although I have given a couple of old ones away as Xmas gifts.

For years, I just had one watch, a mid 90s Tag Heure sporty quartz watch that is currently mislaid without a strap somewhere in my house. Then about ten years ago I developed the bad habit of looking at old Swiss watches...

CDG, you get it, it will look cool when you drive your Fiat Spider. I have found a 1962 Seikomatic. Pics to follow. EDIT: Seiko Crown.

It's in good condition and is running well so far. It's a hand winder.

OK, I now have five dress watches and two sports watches, ranging from 1957 through 1962 and 1997 to 2020. NO MORE WATCHES.

I saw this for sale earlier and thought that it might be of interest.

1964 Weekdater: £350 without the strap.
That's an attractive watch.
Have you bought this yet? I would maybe haggle for a strap.

Note to self: do not do classic car maintenance whilst wearing a classic dress watch.

Top tipz, please, for removing a minor abrasion mark from the crystal of a 1960s Seiko...

My next ingenue question is where is the best place to try and sell an early 1970s Breitling Transocean mechanical with three registers that is in very good condition? Box but no papers. I can try eBay of course, but is there a more specialised watch selling site for non traders?

Many thanks, but I am not going down that rabbit hole. I like old watches, but not that much.

If you sell to a third party such as watchfinder, you'll get rinsed. ....
Sigh. I am fifty eight years old and a lawyer. It is a rule of PH that anyone asking any question is assumed to be fourteen years old and an easy mark. The classic car forum is the worst for this. People answer using crayons.

That’s a very nice watch, I sell mine to markworthington jewellers in Wilmslow.

Very good service, quick payment, although they will want to physically see the watch which might be a of a pain for you.

Before buying the 1962 Seiko Crown I picked up this 1973 Seiko Automatic. It cost buttons. I really like its simplicity and its feeling of quality. The face is a lovely blue that does not show its full prettiness in this picture. The watch keeps good time but like most old watches must not be worn when doing the washing up.

The tool for the job is called polywatch.
But you can do it with any polishing compound, even toothpaste (apparently).
You genius!

Having damaged the crystal on my rather lovely 1962 watch by wearing it when fixing my rather lovely 1962 car, I have fixed the damage by using Sensodyne. I wish that I could fix my rather unlovely 1962 self so easily.

It is a cool watch. It looks 60s or 70s to me, but best to ask Mikeveal or GC8.

That will be as waterproof as Seiko originally intended with new seals and a service. Providing that the case hasn't corroded, but it isn't likely.
In for a service and seals now.
