Great thread. It would be an IWC Portugese Yacht Club for me:

I prefer the Quantieme Lunaire myself, but I'd have that one too.

The only thing that puts me off JLC as a brand is the aftersales service. I have a Master Compressor in for service at the moment, and as of today it's been away for 20 weeks with no sign of it coming back. The only thing certain is the fking huge bill when I pick it up.

Me too, but with white dial. I missed one from Blowers yesterday, my own fault for being tardy all week frown

For some reason I hate moon phase watches, not sure why.

39mm / 40mm Sub homages.

Surprisingly diffcult to ifnd a good one in the middle ground between Chinese eBay nonsense and the pricier Marcello C. Steinhart Ocean would be fine - but not the newer 42mm versions.

I really liked the looked of the Squale 1545 20 Atmos, particularly the Maxi - but they're all gone and not many come onto the market. When they do, they either go in minutes or are in the States and selling CONUS only.

I very nearly picked up a Raven VIntage 40mm, but the prospect of import duties took it up above the amount I'd like to spend (and I'm not massively ken on the plexi, longterm - although it does look excellent).

Who knows how long an OWC would take to arrive, if ordered now.

Currently scouring WIS-Market for the following, in approximate order of preference (I reaise some are essentially the same watch, but branding makes some more/less attractive):

Squale 20 Atmos
Raven VIntage 40mm
OWC Milsub or Snowflake
Steinhart Ocean 39mm
Ollech & Wajs M4 (missed one at BIN price of £165 by seconds.. grrr!)
Davosa Ternos
Debaufre Ocean 39mm
Robert Poseidon 39mm
Marc & Sons (although this appears to be v. likely to be the same case etc as the Davosa, something about it bothers me).

It's doing my head in, frankly.

That vintage Explorer in the OP is lovely - also fancy one of those Vacherons, myself!

It has to be a handwind, pre-Daytona for me though... Something like this:

Sandoz! The Singapore Sandoz watches are accepted as Swiss by the Swiss, but the Hong Kong Sandoz pieces, whilst using Swiss ETA movements, arent assembled there and arent 'Swiss'. The Hong Kong watches are slightly inferior and are cheaper, although theyre both twice as expensive in real terms as they were five years ago.

Reading up I see that theyre no longer finished in Switzerland, so they should not have a Swiss marked dial.

The Omega Railmaster for me. As an everyday watch it looks fantastic although I need to makesure it does not look too big on my wrists.

I've been on the verge of ordering this for well over a year:

Resisted so far because I already have 3 Hamiltons, and trying to convince myself I'd rather have 1 Seamaster than another 5 Hamiltons / Tissots / Christopher Ward.

I really, really shouldn't be buying any more watches at the moment. I do like this CW though, and it isn't expensive.

I've been looking at used Aerospaces. Half the blokes at work have them, but they do look good on the wrist.

Alternatively I've always fancied one of these. Part of me does think it looks a bit like a Casio though (which are worn on ISS missions just as frequently as the Omega....)
