What is it with Daytona? I just dont get it? There's no date on it and if anyone has actually used the tacho scale etc I'd be interested to hear.

Don't get me wrong I'm a big Rolex buff with a Day/Date and 16610 SubDate - the latter is ageing quite nicely and not really tempted by the ceramic replacement. To me a date function is more important.

I too can remember the 4-6 year waiting lists for Daytona (and the ridiculous overpricing by non AD) but now you see then in AD windows.

So for the subby ceramic give it a while.

It's the lugs that kill it for me. They're too broad and make the strap look weedy, which is a shame, because there's finally a clasp worthy of the name (and price) on the other side...

I agree. The lug to bracelet width looks odd. Surely it would have made sense for Rolex to move to a 22mm bracelet for the new Sub, GMT and Daytona?

I am also amazed at how much bigger the ceramic Sub looks despite the fact that both watches have a 40mm diameter (excl crown). The maxi dial, wider lugs and bigger crown horns work together to increase the apparent size.

Yup, this coupled with the big price increase on the new one promted me to bite the bullet back in April and buy a new old style 16610 Sub while I could (just) still find one in an AD.

There's a new Sub C on TZ at the moment, £4,600.

Doubt you will get better than that anywhere, and regardless, you'd need to go on the list to get it at that price.

Torneau in NY wanted $15k for a 2004 model...

I cant speak for all of us but the premium on a daytona is £1000 give or take a little

I would not be waiting 3/4 years for a watch to save £1000-£250 a year, Less than a pound a day.

[Beard]No, the 16520(Zenith) was replaced by the 116520 (Rolex chrono) in 2000....[/Beard]



PS. I had one of the new Ceramic 116610LN's in this morning, and very nice it is too. The new bezel assembly, maxi dial and 'Glidelock' clasp really work well. It feels are really solid, well made piece. I didn't fancy the images, but in the 'flesh' it gets my vote..... Just my 2c.

I thought the new sub was going to cost c. £4600 anyway so if there are already watches for sale at that price where's the premium? Or is the price rise hitting later in the year?

The £4600 price is a one off (and sold) because the seller wasnt prepared to make a profit from fellow TZ members...nice guy but others may not be so generous...
