^^^Agreed^^^. The Railmaster is a nice, understated watch.

A white Explorer 2

I've even been thinking about getting rid of a few of mine to go towards the cost, which isn't like me at all. Neither is wanting a Rolex.
That's what reading too many watch forums does to you.

I also think they look fantastic - shame they do not seem to come up secondhand very often.

Currently trying to decide between a new Stowa or a secondhand Longines from the Master collection.

I quite liked the Orient Mako diving watch:

So I bought one.
  • Automatic
  • Accurate
  • Day-date
  • 200m waterproof.
  • Proper numbers
  • Good lume
  • Pepsi unidirectional bezel
  • Exceptional value.
I added the Nato strap BTW, it came with a rubber strap that was good but I preferred this.

Now I am obsessing about various watches - this part of PH is bad for your wallet!

I've sent off for a Dornbluth catalogue as I quite fancy this one

I only have an Oris which was perfectly adequate until recently......

That Oris is pretty nice !!!! Not seen one like that before.

This forum is indeed bad for your wallet - as a direct result of wanting to get a nice watch and hanging around in here, I am about 6 weeks away from receiving my Dornblueth 99.1 which Dirk and Co. are just putting together, so I've been obsessing over that (and possibly testing Dirk's patience into the bargain...) !!! It's a unique experience for me, in that I've been able to ask for the watch that I'd like (a few custom options such as a red '12' and a rhodium plated movement). Frankly, July can't come soon enough !!!

I like the little touch of the calendar hand on the Oris being a Hawker Hunter.

the new limited edition; lovely.

have the white face on and love it to bits; with the thin bezel it's a really lovely watch to wear.

Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster...

Probably the longest name ever for a watch, only superseded by the Spacemaster Glow!

Love the gaslights & day date combo!

Good call on the Ball. I have the similar Engineer Hydrocarbon Mad Cow, but it has fewer tritium tubes than the Spacemaster, and was about £500 less. Already have one other Ball (oo-err), but there are others I fancy. Ball prices have rocketed over the past few years. Keep an eye out for Ernest Jones sales; they often discount certain Balls heavily.

My one question nobody seems to be able to answer is after the... Think its 25 year lifespan of the gas lights. what happens then? Replaceable?

The space master was over the 2k mark last time i looked, but could pick it up in Malaysia for £1700 ish.

I'll be keeping an eye out at earnest jones then, cheers!

Tritium half-life is 12.5 years, but I've read that due to the way they are manufactured the tubes in Ball watches may have a half-life of more like 8-10 years. So the tubes will be at 1/4 of 'new' brightness after 16-20 years in practice, which is the lowest level at which Ball reckon the lume will still be useable.

They do have a tube replacement programme; the tubes themselves are something like $5 USD a pop, plus labour.

Ernest Jones usually have two sales a year, summer and winter. List on my Mad Cow was £1560, but I got it on sale at £1k. I don't think the summer sale has run yet.
