From earlier post I forgot to upload photo. For me.... if more Rolex windows looked like this the brand would be much more exciting and tempting.
And many of us would be bankrupt and divorced! Thank goodness for restricted supplies!! biggrin

My local Mall

I live in an area of no crime and this has shocked the community. Some of the comments are amusing in their naive, faintly racist tone.

Incidentally, Bloomingdales started selling second hand Rolexs a few years ago. It’s an odd partnership but they were pricing the watches at reasonable levels and offered employees discounts. This meant a friend bought a GMT for $4k not long ago. That same friend recommended they stop selling the watches because their target market isn’t really Buying second hand anything. Recently, the prices have got to a level that even with a 50% discount they don’t make good buys.

I wish you were right about AD windows looking like the above but im afraid it wouldnt help you much as i think they are display models only! It just gets better and better at Rolex. So just to explain why i say that.I was in Geneva airport yesterday and popped into the AD there as there had almost the same watches in there window,i had a look inside the shop, when the lady clocked my S/S daytona she asked if there was anything i was intrested in,yes i said cani have a look at the Explorer 2 and the Millgaus, fine she said,i had a try on of both and said yes i will take both. Sorry she said but they are not for sale they are display models, infact they dont even have any guts in them! WTF!!!! Its almost like they are taking the piss now lol

Never ever heard that before and I'm sorry to say I'm not sure i believe it to be true either.

More likey they just had another customer in mind for them, although Milgauss is usually not too hard to get.

I'm not accusing you of lying, but I'm suggesting that the dealer may have been.
The reason they would be in the window is to get you into the shop.

I tend to agree. “Ah sorry Sir those are dummies, but have you seen this rather charming bi metal Datejust?”

Seems really odd that you tried on the watches and only when you wanted to buy them that they mentioned they were mockups with no movement?

You think it would come up earlier.

I know they sometimes use exhibition watches in exhibitions but I’ve never heard of movement-less watches being in a dealership window.

Definitely real watches; definitely available for purchase. Just the wrong versions!

I did read an article about display only models last year!
I cant remember where I read it or in what Country it referred too … Just the Chinese punters demanding they are sold these pieces.

PP do the same also. I went to a PP dinner in london and they had the whole range there, but none off them were working models, they take a couple of bits out so they dont work!!

I've experienced this in Switzerland.

Same thing in AD in Singapore Airport, they have two SS models there.. not for sale. I've been through there 3 times in last month or so and the bloody things are still there.
I've no idea if they have the guts in them though, they felt heavy enough.

I was in Geneva airport last weekend and apart from the fact about them being mock ups, I experienced exactly the same. They had a WG Daytona with an Oysterflex strap that I inquired about. They gave me the price ex tax, I did the maths and said I would have it. 'Sorry Sir these aren't for sale and cannot be ordered', a complete waste of time.
