Is the triple date a reduce model?
I want a full size speedy, does the extra 3mm make much difference?
alfabadass - I believe it is a reduced model, ie 38mm excluding the crown. I think the size is just right for me. Gorgeous watch, has everything on it. My Rolex Sub is 40mm and anything above this size would be too big for me. I want a full size speedy, does the extra 3mm make much difference?
In terms of it making a difference, I think it would be down to your wrist size.
Unwittingly, I ordered a Lum-Tec M5 only to realise later that it is 44mm I am certain that would be too big for me so I would have one for sale soon

I can't find a speedy pro date with silver bezel and black face
That's because it's not a Speedy Pro.It's a Speedmaster Date - Looks like a Ref. 3210.50.00 but with a silver bezel.
I just couldn't find it on the omega site. I guess it's an old one?

Both would be a great watch I'm sure but for me I think the seamaster is fussy as mentioned and neither of them really go past being great watches.
I'd got for a speed pro, in fact I have!!!
I honestly think its not just a great watch but its got a timeless look thatll never go in and out of fashion.
Plus it transcends a mere watch with the NASA history behind it.
Fully seconded. The most important watch in history IMHO. Not just the watch worn on the moon, but the one Jim Lovell used to time the re-entry burn for Apollo 13 to the second thus saving the mission.I'd got for a speed pro, in fact I have!!!

I have one in my collection with a crystal back so you can see the awesome movement.

I think you'll find that Lovell was a little busy at the time controlling one axis of movement of the spacecraft whilst Haise controlled another. It was almost certainly Sweigert that timed the burn.</pedant mode off>
Same (well almost) watch though.
ETA: It is often suggested that Sweigert may have used his Rolex to time the burn but that is usually debunked.

Is it right that all speedies are manual wind ? Or do they do an automatic version ?
I love my seamasters but do acknowledge the speedy as a great design and an important timepiece in history but would not probably want a manual winder.... I haven't had a manual watch for 20 years or more
and I am not interested in anything with a quartz drive

You are aware, I take it, that the movement is not the same as the watches that went to the moon? And as for Lovell/Swigert etc timing the burn, well I had heard that, but I wasn't aware that it was confirmed. But a quick google suggests you have out-geeked me!
Can you get the Pro with date in the UK?
Was on my way back through Geneva Airport the other day and called in to their duty free shop. Was shown a speedmaster and was told it was the 'moonwatch' with date (at the 6) and I can't find the model anywhere. The alternative is the 3210.50.00 model.

There is no "Pro with date". The Speedmaster Professional is a specific model of Speedmaster and it does not have a date.Ranger 6 said:

That's because they were telling porkies. The "moonwatch" is the Speedmaster Professional 3570.50.00 from the current model range. IIRC it's the only one that is actually flight qualified.Ranger 6 said:

Yes, that's a "Speedmaster Date".Edited by Strangely Brown on Friday 27th March 15:15
