The speedy with the display back is often referred to as the sapphire sandwich.
Awesome, thanks. Look to be 4k+ for second hand.As previous posters said, there are many to choose from.
I have been debating one myself - important purchase as it would be my only "luxury" watch and sadly Explorer is not out of my range.
Some considerations I have been contemplating:
Really would like the new version as the bracelet is great and bracelets to me are generally very important.
Point of entry hesalite version is not the one to go if this is to be your only watch. It scratches badly and does not look great. Friend of mine bought one as his only watch (similar position to mine) and it has no shine and looks crap.
I understand the point of hesalite being true to original and it makes sense if someone has a large collection of watches, but for only one, it must be sapphire in my opinion.

Omega bracelets have been fantastic for decades, so I wouldn’t worry too much about that. I have been debating one myself - important purchase as it would be my only "luxury" watch and sadly Explorer is not out of my range.

Explorers are getting cheaper too, if that’s what you really want.

Don’t know about decades. They’ve always been well made, but whether you can get a good fit on the bracelet is another thing. Up until recent years when clasps were fitted with micro adjustment, you could only adjust to a half link. That never worked for me, the band was either too loose or too tight. And from memory I could never take enough links out of the 6 o clock side. I have mine adjusted so they are comically short on that side to stop the watch head rolling off the side of my wrist. That said the modern bracelets with micro adjust are brilliant. And you can make the 6 o clock side really short.

I’d say decades, the quality of them is fantastic and nothing stopping you fitting a sliding micro adjust clasp to an older bracelet if you want to. I think the non-diving older clasps (like fitted to the Speedmaster) have 2That said the modern bracelets with micro adjust are brilliant. And you can make the 6 o clock side really short.
holes of manual micro adjust - mine done.
I think we’re agreeing. All I’m saying is that the micro adjust was the game changer for me. Whether you can retrofit to older Omega bracelets is something you’d need to check with an AD for the specific bracelet you have. I did it on spec with an older SMPc, the thinking being that I could sell the clasp on eBay if it didn’t fit. But it did fortunately. For Speedies I have no idea, as I wear the ones I have on straps, because a) I couldn’t get a good fit on a bracelet and b) they look better on straps IMHO.

Where did you get that from?
It is from Geckota. I also have a brown and a black although I've never worn them yet (and had them years!). If you go to their website (or Ebay) they will have the same or similar for around the £20 mark.Edit: https://www.geckota.com/collections/leather-watch-...
£28. Should have guessed the price would have gone up, what hasn't!

I have had 3 Speedmasters over the years. First was a Speedmaster Date with the sub dials at 12, 6 and 9. I then replaced that with a Speedmaster reduced. That was a huge mistake, the reduced felt cheap and fragile compared to my previous watch and the spacing of the sub dials just never looked right on that watch to me.
I now have the standard Professional Moonwatch with hesalite crystal and it is the perfect watch for me. Don’t let the manual wind put you off, even with an automatic watch, unless you wear it every day you will need to set it before putting it on. Adds to the experience of owning a mechanical watch.
