Dornblueth watches
Discussion
So from reading other watch forums I've become aware of this brand and now I really want one!.
At £4-5k, this seemed a lot of watch for the money, but looking at various models on the website, it's probably the World time / Regulators that have most appeal to me, but the price is then closer to £10k.
At that price are there better options I should consider (I already have a selection of watches between £2k and £7k covering the 'normal' more mainstream brands), and while I am looking at this to own and wear, not as an investment, I don't want to pay over the odds if there are better alternatives available.
I believe that these matches are made to order and there is a significant waiting list, but the experience of having a watch made to your own specifications and interacting with the maker is obviously appealing.
Thanks, FG

Great watches. Has anyone got any experience or opinion on Dornbleuth watches?
Thanks

I have had a 99.3 for a number of years.
Would certainly recommend one but not sure what the current waitlist is.
There is something special about a watch that is handmade in such limited quantities.
I have yet to meet someone that has one on their wrist.

Thanks 5-6months waiting list, apparently. I'm happy to wait for the right watch!I have had a 99.3 for a number of years.

I have a 99.1 which is about 5 years old.
From memory you can chose the numbers on the dial to be painted (choice of colours) or applied (choice of finish). Also the hands-blued, gold, silver. I think there is also a choice of finish on the movement and you can also have it engraved.
Waiting time was a bit longer when I ordered mine, may 11 months, and the process is enjoyable. You will get a photographic record of your watch being made as well.
I don't really know how it stacks up from a value viewpoint against alternatives. I was looking at an IWC Portuguese until I came across Dornblueth on this forum. Still very happy with my watch and find myself wearing it more and more.
As mentioned before, it is unlikely you will run into someone wearing one so much more unique than most other brands.

Thanks - I already have a Portuguese 371447, with the black face, but at the time I bought that I was very tempted by the one with the blue hands. I might therefore be tempted with a Dornblueth with a blue strap, blue hands etc. From memory you can chose the numbers on the dial to be painted (choice of colours) or applied (choice of finish). I’ve done a bit of research online - Are they as big as people are suggesting?
I think my IWC is 40.9mm, so a 42mm case doesn’t seem like it should be that much bigger?
There's a lot of dial visible & I know of a couple of people who have sold them as they were too big for their wrist. I don't know if there is anywhere in the UK that stocks them but if you fancy a weekend in Amsterdam the Amsterdam Watch Company may have some in you can try:I think my IWC is 40.9mm, so a 42mm case doesn’t seem like it should be that much bigger?

In terms of customisation I know one buyer even had a custom coloured dial.
There is no doubt that watch looks stunning and I wouldn’t want anything too controversial, beyond the blued hands and numerals.
The size does worry me now, looking at the numerous comments about this on various other forums. At this price it’s got to be perfect and something I want to wear, not something that just looks great in its box!
Looks like a bit more research is required, including a trip to Amsterdam?!

You shouldn't worry about the size of the watch.
If you are close to London I'd be happy to catch up for a coffee and let you try mine on.
In the end it was the size that did for me as it didn't really work with the sort of shirts I wear. Just too big for my wrist when wearing something smartish. If you are close to London I'd be happy to catch up for a coffee and let you try mine on.
I wear watches as big or bigger a more casual way.
