Where to sell an Omega SMP sword hands and for how much?
Discussion
Am looking to sell my Omega Seamaster Full size auto (sword hands), aside from PH classifieds where would you recommend I advertise? I'm not a member of any specialists watch forums though and I know some stop advertising for new members. TZ etc. Am reluctant to use ebay because of the commission they will take.
And the important bit, what shall I ask for it? It's 6 years old, been worn rarely, maybe 10 times for weddings and funerals, has all the boxes, paperwork, tags, links etc and receipt from Beaverbrooks. The crystal and case are unmarked, only the clasp has some minor scuffing as you would expect and one link by the clasp has a tiny tiny scratch?
Also what is the safest way to take payment? Can paypal be reversed and should I just go for a face to face deal?
cheers in advance for any advice, the pic below is from the web for reference only.

It's free to post an ad up here, try it and see what happens. I've bought and sold through PH, no concerns at all. As for asking price, I'd guess that £1200 would be fair considering it's a full set in what should be great nick. Bank transfer or PP, send the watch when you receive the money by Royal Mail Special Delivery for tracking, insured and signed for service (prob cost around £10), as long as the watch is as advertised you shouldn't have any issues.
Great watch, a classic in the making if it isn't already

If I were in the market I'd pay that without a haggle, ergo it must be worth more, they are quite well sort after.
If it's near mint, original box and papers, I'd be looking for more than 1k2 for a 2254.50 SMP my self.
How much more I don't really know, the bay only has 2 at present one at £1495 the other at £2249.

Maybe a little more, but not much IMO. £1495 is right at the very top end (in fact, I've never seen one that high before privately advertised) and £2249 is just plain bloody daft.If it's near mint, original box and papers, I'd be looking for more than 1k2 for a 2254.50 SMP my self.

There's a 2254.50 on TZ at the mo, 2003 model with all the bits, recently serviced and up for £1250, so maybe £1200 is on the lower side.

I'd have a stab around 1k4 to see there are any takers, you can always come down to 1k2 if necessary. This does sound as if its full box, papers and tags rarely worn etc too........
I'd be a bit disappointed if all I got for it was £1200, would be hoping for £1500 ish to lessen the blow of selling it. Watch is great condition, aside from the usual clasp wear that could be polished out it is perfect. I'd be surprised if it's been worn more than 10 times and all those were formal occassions with no risk of damage. All boxes, tags, books and links etc are there too. Anyway, thanks to all for the advice, I'll have a better search to see what I'm competing against and get an ad up in the right place.
I have sold a few watches on ebay around the £2k mark - simply invite people to contact you for any other info (and on a 2k purchase they will) and then enter into a "chat" with them
Before you know it they are taking it off your hands earlier and you close the ebay sale. I cant recall the last time I sold (or bought) something on there that ended at normal auction.

Finally took the pics and got the ad up, will be sad to see it go but it never gets worn so is just useful money sitting in the drawer.
Have allowed myself a small proportion of the sale price to buy a cheaper diver on a bracelet, will probably be a Seiko of some description so all is not lost.

Well it is sold after less than a day of advertising, deposit taken and just waiting for transfer of balance. Sad to see it go but it's just sitting in a drawer doing nothing.
Am sure it will continue to rise in value but eventually it'll reach a limit. Maybe if I kept it for another 10 years I'd make more money but the money spent on services could wipe out a large proportion of that.
As it is I've made nice amount over what I paid for it (you used to get nice discounts on these!), some will be spent on a nice (seiko?) £300ish type diver the rest will go in the pot for a rainy day.
