Engagement rings - Hatton Garden (or other) recommendations?
Discussion
Hello all, engagement ring time.
Have done a search and found quite a few interesting/informative threads on here which have answered many of my original questions.
So far:
- Don't buy on the high street
- Cut (quality) is king
- Clarity/colour somewhat less important
Already done the proposal and planning on going with the fiancée to have a look at diamonds/rings this week.
I'm not too keen to buy online (though prices seem competitive), although I've read about the desired specs for best sparkle (depth % etc) there's no substitute for seeing it in real life.
Old threads recommended trips over to the US or Antwerp - does this still hold true?
We're based in London and it seems that Hatton Garden is the go to place locally. Any specific recommendations?
Budget is around 4k, round brilliant cut with either white gold or platinum band.
Are Nightmare or Lord Summerisle still around?
TIA

Slightly bias but I would always recommend http://www.blowersdiamonds.com/ again they will advise you on all matters from purchasing the stone to having it set in any design you have seen or like

would also suggest contacting ecain63. His thread on on his work over the last year or so has been fascinating.
I'd second this. I've also seen his work "in the metal" and it's first rate. Also, nothing quite like having a ring custom made having discussed it with the person who'll actually make it!On a tangenital note... I was wondering how people get the correct size when going down the traditional route of putting the ring on when they say yes, as opposed to going shopping together afterwards and buying it.
I've thought about measuring her ring finger when she is asleep or taking another ring of hers (different finger so probably different width anyway, plus I would likely get caught!!)
