Basic Rolex Sub question
Discussion
My son picked up a no-date Sub from Goldsmiths after only a couple of weeks on the waiting list (he was 64th on the list, but the first person that picked up the phone when they started calling)
He's already being offered close to £6k for it from the usual dealers.
He might let it go shortly if his position on the waiting list for a Hulk goes the same way....

Likewise, picked up my Sub ND about a month ago.
Local AD had none but another branch had one. Picked it up next day 40 miles up the road at list. No wriggle room there.
Maybe I was lucky, maybe they are not so rare/on back-order.
I think the ponzi which is Daytona/GMT market - gotta be ADs colluding with Aftermarket flipping for greater margin? I can't see it lasting too long if we have a real financial turndown there's got to be literally hundreds unworn units collectively ready to flood the market at more realistic prices. I just wish Rolex would get a grip now and open the flood-gates a little before it comes back and who'll ops them on the blindside.

A 'perfect storm' combination of:
- Stainless Steel Subs remaining perennially in-demand
- Foreign buyers clearing out the UK because they can get Rolex so much cheaper here, post-Brexit & the reduced exchange value of Sterling
- Leading to a scarcity of supply, perhaps also because Rolex is maybe loathe to over-stock a territory where it gets less return for RRP
- Watchfinder generally sticking the arm in (well, they are a business after all...)
Before the November 2016 ~10% price increase by Rolex in the UK, the UK hadn't seen an increase in RRP since 2012.
Before that 10% increase, the price discrepancies were startling.
Prior to Nov. '16, an 114060 Submariner Ceramic ('No Date') then had an RRP of GBP £5,000 in the UK, circa €6,900 across the Euro Zone, and USD $7,500 in the USA.
However, with the Pound's steep decline, at that point GBP £5,000 equated to around Euro €5,600 / USD $6,100.
That was a serious saving already, but when you consider that a non-Eurozone buyer could waive the VAT as well, the savings were even more astronomical.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport's outlets - even with their famous (equivalent of tax-free) discount for EU buyers - were at least on a par with, or more expensive than UK RRP, as far back as July '16.
The 10% price increase arguably hasn't had enough of a balancing effect, so demand still outstrips supply. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see another increase in the near-ish future.
Although, with a bit of perseverance, shoe-leather & phone calls, Subs can still be secured within a reasonable time-frame in the UK - it's just that they rarely make it into the shop window.
I'm the son mentioned above, I got mine from goldsmiths in Brum at the beginning of march, after a long, but obviously fruitless search to get one at a discount.
I couldn't speculate on whether supply is being purposefully strangled, but just look in the window of any AD, and you'll be lucky to see any steel sports watches. The closest I got was a black/gold GMT.
I've put my name on a 6-year (!) waiting list for a Hulk, hoping that I get the same luck twice (I know, I know, but I traversed a 3-month waiting list inside a week so fingers crossed!) but during my visit, purely a factfinding mission to try on DateJusts, I was told there was an imminent price rise, but wasn't told by how much.
Just remember the 114060 'no date' is over £1k cheaper than the 116610 sub date. (Which is why I went for one after sulking because I couldn't find a green date).

Goldsmiths in the Bull Ring are quite good for Sub's. I put my name down for a Batman & Sub at the same time, got the call 5 days later for the Batman and received 3 calls for Sub's within a 4 month period. Requested to be removed from the list in the end.
For the Hulk, try Watches of Switzerland on New Street. Last time I was there and asked they said it's about a 3/6 month wait on them. I was also in the shop yesterday and was told that another price hike is expected soon.
Forgot to ask to be put onto the Daytona list after buying a Lady-Datejust 28 for the better half, I'll be giving them a call later to ask! The chap in the store said he has only seen 3 ceramic Daytona's after working in the shop for just over a year and the waiting list for them is between 7 to 10 years.

How odd, when I was a WoS on new street, looking for a no date, they said the waiting list was 2 years! Hence my walk to Goldsmiths...
If I can get a hulk inside a year (unless the market has changed since your last visit) then I'm definitely going to accidentally stumble into their premises...
Now, how does one sell a Rolex...

The first time I walked in and had little knowledge on watches, the guy brought out a non date to me there and then to try on! This was just under a year ago though.
I'll be speaking with the chap I dealt with shortly, I'll ask what the waiting time is for a Hulk .
One thing I found out over the weekend. WoS and Goldsmiths trade watches, and apparently all watches within an AD are still owned by Rolex until sold.

Just got off the phone and been told the expected wait times for the watches below.
Non date Sub - 6 months wait
Hulk Sub - 12 to 18 month wait
Also told that if there is a price increase, watches tend to be held back and then a wave of them are released after the prices have gone up. Not a bad way to keep profit up!
And sadly even after expressing interest to those models above and having just brought a watch on Sunday for a significant sum, I still can't be put onto the Daytona list as it's closed and an expected wait of 7 to 12 years!
