I rather like the look of this but shouldn't it have a seamaster back?
I was too chicken to post an ebay link on TZ, I didn't think it would be approved of!
Thanks

Looking again I wonder if its been over-polished and virtually polished out? In light of this Id suspect that the dial had been tarted up too. I have a 136.011 with a C610 which has a similar windowed dial. Its virtually 100% with Chronostop type second markers, but its very, very unusual to find one so clean...

It all depends on the day; but youll do well to be looking for a good watch rather than a shiny watch, because theyre seldom the same thing.
How does an amateur go about seperating the wheat from the chaff?Edited by ShadownINja on Sunday 17th May 11:19
I'm intrigued by all these watches from India etc. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole but there appears to be decent feedback and they certainly sell for decent money.
So what are they? Bitsas made from genuine parts by skilled people or something rather less genuine.
Or are they the genuine article?

Frankenwatches: maybe. Even if thats not the case then theyre usually over-polished with relatively poorly re-finished dials; so I think that its relatively safe to say that they started out looking as though someone had played underwater street hockey with them.
You can learn a lot if you keep watching, as suggested. My criteria would be as follows (for older Omegas):
Working relatively well, with no signs of water ingress.
Clean dial, because dials are hard-to-impossible to find.
Clean case, but not one thats been polished.
Hands dont matter, theyre easily available and relatively cheap.
Crystal doesnt matter: hesalite crystals as above.
An original crown is nice but, as above: theyre not a problem.
The strap doesnt matter because even an original part will probably be worn and replacements only cost £20-ish.
A signed buckle is nice but as above: theyre not expensive and £30 will easily buy a genuine new strap and buckle.
Expect to pay £55-£75 for a service which'll make it as good as it can be and the parts will be fitted for free too.
Now youre looking for completely different watches to may eBay punters and youll end up with a massively superior watch for considerably less money. So much less in fact, that youll be able to buy a beads of rice bracelet and a NOS box with the difference. One further point: bracelets make a difference, especially if the bracelet is desirable, but this doesnt apply to integrated bracelet watches. You might even find that a new bracelet for these models can be bought for very little from Bob Frei (as they only suit one or two cases and demand is low).

Of course, you only ever know what the fellow with the second highest bid was prepared to oay, but this looked like a good bet. Unfortunately Id forgotten that I was watching it...
