Anyone here bought a Liquid Metal?
Discussion
Isn't only the bezel made of ceramic with Liquidmetal inserts?
Bit of a con if so. I remember the original OQO pocket computer, designed by a bunch of ex-Apple industrial designers, which was meant to be made from the proprietary Liquidmetal alloy, which is basically an amorphous alloy with no crystal boundaries IIRC, and in terms of materials science rather neat, and in terms of geek factor off the scale
OQO never delivered a Liquidmetal machine - the first one was a bit of a disappointment, the second model was a lot better (I have one in my 'important tech gadget collection' - yes the 'collection' habit extends way beyond my watch collection) but they eventually went bankrupt.
I've been keeping an ear out for Liquidmetal (I think Vertu use it, so presumably the Liquidmetal chaps simply couldn't productionise the process at a reasonable cost, leaving it only used in *bulk* by very low volume, monstrous profit-margin luxury kit). If Omega are only using it as filler for their ceramic bezel, then it gets a huge 'Meh' from me. If they're making the entire watch, bracelet and all, from the alloy, then it would *feel* awesome. Somehow (given Vertu prices) I don't think Omega are doing this...
But I'd love to be wrong.
(OT - Luke - got your email - will reply later, but this weekend is flat out and I'm going skiing next week so can't commit to anything right now)

There are only a few 'real life' images of the PO LiquidMetal kicking about on the Internet ... This is one, which took a bit of searching for!
I have to admit I drooled over the press release shot too, but when I saw the above image, I was a little disappointed The glossy ceramic bezel just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the watch ... I actually prefer the flat black on the standard PO bezel!
From what I can remember, the PO LiquidMetal features:
-Omega 2500 Cal. movement
-Ceramic bezel
-LiquidMetal bezel numbers and scales
-Applied numerals and 'Omega' font
-Red 'Seamaster' text
-Limited to 1,948 pieces
~£3.8K (Although with recent price increases, this might've changed!)

Me too, that is bloody boring!!No way (IMO!) is it worth that much premium over the standard one.
CF, no worries, I just didn't want you to reply to the works address as I won't pick my mail up until mid next week.
Me no understandi
Is it supposed to look different? Behave differently? Feel different?
I googled it, and got some cracking pictures. Eg:
It looks nice, but I don't know if that's lighting or photography or what. What am I looking at?
And please don't give me another 'crystal boundaries' explanation, because I'll just put on a dumb expression and ask the same questions again.

The main benefit of using ceramics is it's resistance to scratches. A ceramic bezel will look like brand new in 5 years time, whereas an aluminium/steel bezel will be a little worse for wear! Obviously bezels can be replaced, but at a cost! The ceramic bezel is also a gloss black, rather than a flat black. Is it supposed to look different? Behave differently? Feel different?

The LiquidMetal is a titanium alloy that is malleable in the manufacturing process. The LiquidMetal is used for the bezel numbers & scales and is used to give the visual effect of a metal, yet creating a seamless finish against the ceramic ...
The rest of the additions are merely cosmetic 'limited edition' upgrades!
