Somebody gave me an idea recently: Make your own ring!
Discussion
I had a PHer (who has since gone quiet) contact me a short while ago with a request to be involved in the making of his future fiance's engagement ring as much as is physically possible. After a short think i thought 'why not let him, under supervision and guidance of course, make his own?'. Despite him disappearing off into the ether I'd still love to try this to see how a novice would get on and whether this could be a future enhanced angle to the business.
So, if anyone out there is looking for a bespoke engagement ring in the near future why not consider trying your hand at making it yourself. What i am offering is the chance to come to my workshop for the day (on a weekend only) and under supervision go through the entire process of making an engagement ring to your own spec (obviously within the limits of what i think is achievable for this sort of venture). If you are interested give me a buzz. It'll be on a first come first served basis so you may need to be quick about it. I'll only charge for the materials as it will be a bit of an experiment so you will bag a bargain at the same time as bagging something special that will gain you points with the missus.
Let me know what you think.
Eddie
ps. I am aware that this would need additional insurance if it were to become a regular feature. Let's see how it goes first though eh!

Hi Eddie
I would be very interested in this; not something I've done before but always liked learning new things.
Only proviso is you'd have to squeeze me in before 27 November as that's when the question's getting popped!
You'd need to be in Bournemouth on the 22nd or 23rd then? If it suits you, let me know by PM.I would be very interested in this; not something I've done before but always liked learning new things.

Hi Eddie
I'm interested. Wifey wants to change her gold engagement and wedding ring for white gold - and I'd like to do something different.
Having seen your work - I know you are the right guy - but I'd love to do some elements of it if possible.

Well, PH member Carnage came down to see me today. Task was to produce this:
So, with a bit of 18ct white gold and a 0.35ct diamond he / we did our best to make something which he could take home with him.
He first made the shank:
He then did some buffing to tidy it up a bit:
I then made a setting. Well, actually i had to make 2 as the first collapsed on me. Oops!!
We put it all together, set the diamond and after a bit of polishing and plating it was ready to box up and send the man on his way:
All in a very enjoyable day and a top bloke to have around. Thanks Paul, I thoroughly enjoyed this little experiment and it seems to have worked. Good luck with the big question.

I did drop you a mail offline not too long ago about something very similar so apologies if you're referring to me however I had no response, perhaps you never received it though and you're referring to someone separate?
Would love to do this though.....
Nothing recieved mate. PH email doesnt always work 100% in my experience. Try me again and we'll sort something out.I did drop you a mail offline not too long ago about something very similar so apologies if you're referring to me however I had no response, perhaps you never received it though and you're referring to someone separate?

Today a certain Mr 'troubleatmill' came to see me. And we did this:
Buffing the engagement ring i'd made prior to his arrival. The design was something that couldnt have been done on the day.
We set the diamond from his previous engagement ring and got it ready for polishing:
Polished:
So then he got on with bending the platinum to make a wedding ring from scratch:
And then hammering it round:
More buffing to get ready for polishing:
Polished:
Perfect couple:
Great to have you down Scott. Hope she appreciated your efforts.

Is this still open?
Unfortunately not. I'm currently back on chemo so i'm limiting the amount of time i actually NEED to be in the office slaving away. Also, the concept escaped some members on here and ive been put off by the attitude of some who see this as a service you just click your fingers for. I was doing it as a fun favour to a few PHers last year and the process went well. Some began to tell me that it was to offered to all and not just on a first come basis. My business, my rules. Anyway, as per your other thread I am happy to help where possible.
