There does seem to be a predominant "conflict of interests" here and the two camps seem to be quite firmly Rolex and Omega!

I am just as guilty of it, and I stand myself firmly in the Omega camp, with my own bigoted "Second Hand Car Dealer" opinion of Rolex.

Now don't get me wrong, I actually like Rolex watches, just not the image i perceive of them.

Anyway, that’s not the reason for this post ...

i just thought that rather than each thread I read turning into a battle of the brands perhaps the Omega fans stand on the right, the Rolex fans on the left, and those that could not give a monkeys either way can go to the stalls and enjoy the ensuing battle.

Gentlemen, take your sides and forever hold your peace!!!

both good responces guys ... and definitely agree about the "slanging matches" that have emerged periodically in P&P over the two brands.

lets all pick up our teddies and agree to play nice

hehe

Irish - like your car analogies to watches !!! (both Omega / Porsche fans evidently )

A lot of people knock Rolex because of the mass production and image but the one thing that I don't think can be denied is that they make a product that, with a little TLC should be going long after the owner is six feet under, and that loses relatively little value. I remember reading once that wherever you are in the world a Rolex basically equals "emergency cash".

The image problem is as with any desirable product.

The moment people buy them simply because they are desirable, those that buy them because they genuinely like them and respect the heritage/engineering are tarred with the same brush as those that buy them simply because David Beckham (or whoever) wears one.

One of the reasons I have one.

No matter what disaster befalls me, I can always walk into a watch dealer and spring £3,000 cash in ten minutes if I need it.

Yeah, but you have one of those ickky Green ones....more £300 than £3000, surely...

now now children, this was to air your differences Omega verses Rolex, not to take the piss out of Veseuvius's choice of rolex model... start your own thread for that hehe

You do make a valid point though, a rolex does make for handy emergancy money!!

and you can pick up loads of good second hand ones for just that reason in any Maccau pawn shop!!! (its all the Japanese and Chinese guys that have gambled everything and now need to pay thier marker to get thier passport back )
