What watch for investment?

My wife has recently come into some money. Given the pathetic interest rates on offeer, she's wondering if it might be better to buy a couple of good watches (men's or women's)with a view to keeping for a few years. Is this a good idea? If so, are there any particular brands she should look for? I must admit I rather like Patek Philippe as they tend to be rather understated and elegant. Neither of us like chunky and over-elaborate bling.
