Paging Gretchen
What's happened to the crop in the field just south and west of your junction with the A1? Some large cleared patches so was wondering if they are crop circles...
I was walking those fields with my neighbour last week and asked this. He says they're suffering 'black grass' at the moment and have been cutting it out. There's a lot of loss on the crops unfortunately. What's happened to the crop in the field just south and west of your junction with the A1? Some large cleared patches so was wondering if they are crop circles...
It's getting more resistant to seasonal sprays too, so wider scale ploughing could be the best cultural control in the Autumn drilling period. (That's what stubble burning would have sorted out a treat!)
Theres some nice ripe looking winter Barley along the B645 out toward your village Sam. I'm keeping a close eye on it as it should be harvested in the next week or so fingers crossed!
Lots of classics out - presumably in/out of Kimbolton. Sorry I didn't make it. Will be there next year for the 25th. Shame about the weather this afternoon.

Just had to go up to Huntingdon with neighbour, they've harvested near the race course already, and he says some of the fields on A1 (Southoe/Diddington) are looking sharp too so possibly next week.

Yes, I saw that field next to the race course being cut last Thursday! (Was out with a mate snapping trucks down @ Hemmingford) Just a shame we couldn't turn around so I could get a few shots away!... Lots of classics out - presumably in/out of Kimbolton. That field is usually always one of the first to be harvested. Very light, free draining soil IIRC!
Theres 3 fields of WB out on the B645 along your end of sticks out to Gt Staughton i'm keeping a keen interest in. Hopefully this week the great grain race will begin!....
I did look out for you at Kimbolton earlier Sam. I think the weather put quite a few people off as there wasn't as many cars there before the rain came and caused a mass exodus!...
I did manage a ride in a V12 Vantage and Griff 500 though. Ran straight into the rain when I went out in the latter and its back end felt a bit "keen" to say the least once the surface got a bit greasy!...

Thanks guys, it does look strange from the A1. I saw a bit about black grass problems on Countryfile recently, it sounds like it's becoming a massive problem.
It is. Its getting more and more resistant to the sprays they use to control it (Stomp, Atlantis, Lexus etc) The rural affairs lot have bought in some new "greening" rules for this season in an effort to control it (3 crop rule IIRC. and as a result, Wheat and OSR plantings are down 2.5% for this coming harvest.) so more farmers will be growing Spring drilled crops and more legumes in the future. (Maize acreage is growing too what with the current trend towards green energy)Ploughing definitely helps though in the Autumn, but that in turns creates problems for some farmers who prefer minimal tillage (Creates a pan 5 inches or so below the surface IIRC so more mole draining/tramline subsoiling will need to be done to combat that in turn, especially on heavier land)Its a never ending battle TBH!...

I'll have to keep an eye out for it in the area. Would I be right, from a quick stalk on here, to think that you have a Lambo? I've seen I think a Black/Grey lambo at various times in the MK vicinity, is that you? Will wave next time ! Edited by jeremyc on Tuesday 14th July 06:56

A random one last night.
Went to drop off an old sofa at the charity furniture place in Kiln Farm and this was parked opposite.
Had a Rover V8 and a bottle of NOS strapped in the back.
The guy in the garage where it was parked also had a Fiat Topolino drag racer in progress - target 190mph!
