Greek F-16 jet crashes at Spanish base, killing 10 people
Discussion
Telecinco.es is reporting that the F16 lost power on take-off and crashed into other jets parked nearby. Later in the same article they say that it crashed onto a hanger.
A video shows plenty of smoke, but filmed from outside the base boundary, reveals little more.

from the 10 victims 2 are the Greek pilots crew of the F-16 and the other 8 are reported to be French aviators (probably ground crew).
Although not as important as the loss of 10 lives, list of planes with major damages should be as follows:
2 Italian AMX
2 French Alpha
1 French Mirage 2000
and reported light damages to
2 French Rafale
1 USAF F-15
And of course the loss of the Greek F16

Looks like a Spanish Harrier in the Background as well. Obviously escaped the damage.
Italians have also 5 AV8-B of their Navy there at the moment. Fortunately no one was damaged, otherwise they would have had a problem with only 11 left, as the F-35B doesn't look to be quickly available...
Spain jet crash deaths rise to 11 as French airman dies.

Is there some big exercise or is the base used for some NATO bombing range?
TLP - Tactical Leadership Programme. It's a NATO excercise that practices interoperability between NATO air forces.http://www.scramble.nl/tlp

The buildings seem a fair way from the runway. Strange how a single engine aircraft should veer so far off of the runway centreline after suffering power issues on take off...

Do we know it was a power failure?
It could be a hydraulic failure leading to loss of control.
Indeed, a loss of power can mean loss of hydraulics leading to loss of control.
Merely repeating initial media reports. The F16 does have dual independent hydraulic circuits and there are several well distributed videos It could be a hydraulic failure leading to loss of control.

of "dead stick" F16 landings. There are also well documented reports that some F16 variants can "Depart" controlled flight if mis-handled in yaw during high "G" turns.
Purely as a matter of interest, read the last post on this page http://www.f-16.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1144
