Sywell "Piston & Props" - 24/9/16
Discussion
A few from an enjoyable day yesterday. sadly high winds at Conningsby prevented the BBMF planned flypast from getting airborne.

Some lovely plane shots there! It was a good day!
Would have been nice to have a bit more flying and a few more static planes (Sywell normally has a lot of interesting stuff anyway so I was surprised there was so little there) but the car displays were good. fantastic to see some group B cars (although some replicas) and the guy driving the Cortina had some skill! Some interesting metal on display and the live bands were good too.
The guy doing 155mph on an old scooter (vespa?) was a real highlight!
Some thoroughly terrible photos below (iphone)

Thanks for that.
I have some of the cars and will try and upload tonight. The Nissan Nismo GT and the Drag funny car would certainly have held their drivers attention on the day.
Agree about the flying it was limited but i think the wind gusting had a big say in that. Was surprised the Blades were all wrapped up and not up for a display.

Nice selection of aircraft. The BBMF seem to be plagued by crosswind issues at Conningsby.
It's more the limitations for the aircraft. The fighters it's as low as 10knots crosswind (IIRC some are higher but not by much) and the land is 15kt if my memory serves me correctly. A few more of the motor vehicles

Was there something wrong with the GTR? Went out of the pits with a huge burnout on Sat and then crawled up and down the runway... Didn't see it run on Sunday.IMG_7165 by mark.greenwood, on Flickr

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't going to comment further but it does show that there are some advantages operating from an open grass airfield.
They do have a grass strip at Coningsby, however it runs parallel to the main runway and is mainly used for training purposes. Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
