Two Chinooks at low level over our house just outside Poole. Anyone have any ideas what they are doing? I couldn’t see anything on Flightradar24. Unusual for this type of thing on a Sunday.
There's been a few over S Wales the last 10 days or so.They're US, supporting Bidens visit to Ireland so have been back and forth quite a lot. One broke down on the way back and ended up landing 2 fields away from me, was there for a few days before being repaired and on its way.

How did they secure it? Surely only the police can. I assume there wasn't some Marines with AR15s standing round it. Royal Marines Barracks Poole, at Hamworthy, often explains low flying RAF Chinooks and A400Ms in the area. I posted a while back about watching an A400M dropping RIBs and personnel into Poole Bay off Old Harry Rocks (with photos). I've also seen pairs of Chinooks flying about over the New Forest, and playback on FlightRadar showed them landing at various points, sitting on the ground for a period of time them zig-zagging over the Forest again.I've had it up to my ears with bloomin' helicopters today. A little blue EC120B with a fenestron tail rotor (G-SKPP) has been buzzing back and forth umpteen times, initially heading in the direction of the Isle Of Wight, then turning to fly along the coast then do lazy loops over the Isle Of Purbeck (Corfe Castle and Swanage). Then we had the Air Ambulance (G-PICU) at the RBH (unusually it landed on the pad there today, lately it's been landing either in school grounds locally, or in Littledown Park), and also HM Coastguard came over. The Air ambulance often comes in right over our house, or it did before the tower cranes went up to build the new wing of the hospital. I'm not sure why the different landing sites, but presumably it's to do with the angle the cranes are "parked" at, building site working hours, wind direction and wheeled ambulance access to the various alternate sites.
ETA:
The EC120B looks like it's been doing the £165 per person sightseeing trips today. The Bliss Aviation (formerly Bournemouth Helicopters) website says... "Sightseeing trip includes views of Hengistbury Head, Bournemouth Beach, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Studland, Swanage and Old Harry Rocks - Experience time approx. 30 minutes."

Just the aircrew afaik, may have been police there? there's a grass airfield for small aircraft on a Farm behind me. There wasn't a massive fuss, think there's pics on the 'spotted in south wales' thread (page 173).Edited by nordboy on Monday 17th April 06:38

The military police were with it, I have a friend who lives in Cardiff who went to see it, apparently the police were very laid back with access but the land owner not so much after people had left tyre tracks all over his fieldA few years ago, we had a Merlin with mechanical problems land in a nearby field. Luckily for the crew, it was walking distance to a local hotel, so they just checked in there and waited for technical assistance before flying out the next day. I don’t recall any special security measures whilst it was sat there.
