AN26 just droned over Chelmsford @ 15k ft from Birmingham. Haven't had one over the city centre for a while.
I have an autistic catalogue of plane sounds in my head and my ears pricked up when I heard something I didn't recognise. Even my wife, who couldn't care less about planes, said what the hell is that. It was an AN26. Won't forget that sound.

I’ve been spending quite a lot of time near Newport and a AN26 regularly flies over from Liverpool to an unknown destination. Very noteable sound indeed.

I saw this posted by a Maltese friend a few days ago on Facebook anybody know anything about it?

Apparently with all the extra equipment inside adding weight they can't do transatlantic flights so ship them over..
laugh

Sadly a little bit more boring than that - it was on its way to a museum (that didn’t have a runway!).

That C-17 landed at Stansted. Does that tally with the news?
100%. There was a large motorcade from Stanstead.

Wow - up to 499 pages! When I started this thread 6 years ago I thought I was the only one who geekily watched FR24 all the time - little did I know I was just an amateur! Hopefully lots more interesting planes to see once volume 2 comes about. beer

It will be a while before Vol 2 appears as I believe the 500 page limit is no longer a thing. I think it's now 1,000 pages.
Oh that’s good - I used to keep losing threads I liked!

I don't have a permanent display, but as you mentioned Raspberry Pi, you can build your own ADS-B Receiver that will feed FlightRadar. They will give you a Business subscription in return which removes ads amongst other things.

I really like to do this - have you (or anyone else) done it, is it complicated?

A friend of mine had a Lear Jet from Florida to Farnborough on her medical insurance. Her boyfriend was a bit annoyed that due to the length of the flight they had to carry an extra pilot so didn't have space to take him as well and he ha to fly back commercial biggrin
If it was a medically equipped LJ your friend had a lucky escape flying commercial!

After arriving in a war zone and descending to. 8,000ft they deemed it a good idea not to land. Why they took off in the first place is a different question.

To have enough fuel to get all the way back to London would suggest that not landing in Tel Aviv was an option they planned for before departure.
Totally agree - was just discussing with a friend in the local - no plane flies with enough fuel to do a return leg usually if long haul.

(Happy to be told otherwise)

Ok to tell you otherwise, it is uncommon but it does happen outside when the destination airport has fuel supply issues.

An example is BA when they flew to Russia before the current war. Having an aircraft going Tech in Russia is a massive PITA, sending parts is a pain, getting parts is a pain, sending your engineers to fix it is a pain (they will need Visa's to enter Russia), so you are going to get screwed by the Russians to get your aircraft flying again. As a result BA flew their aircraft with enough fuel get back to LHR (which they usually flew with their Long Haul Fleet, just like TLV that is serviced with 777/787/350's) rather than going tech.

On topic, an interesting flight today by Qantas from LHR. The daily 787-9 flying into LHR this morning from Perth QF9, VH-ZNN turned around and as ASY1168 (ASY is a Royal Australian Airforce Force callsign) LHR to TLV as a charter for the Australian Government to pick up Australian Citizens who want to leave Israel. It is due to return to LHR and tonight run a delayed service back to Australia.

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/asy1168...

It might be the first time Qantas has flown to Israel. I'm going to message a mate who is a Qantas Captain and ask....
Thanks for the explanation - makes perfect sense now smile

Thanks to Bonefish Blues for sharing this thread on an F1 topic.

Cool thread, I can spend ages on FlightRadar watching what's about. I live in Huddersfield and under the flight path for Manchester, Leeds Bradford, and Liverpool so have plenty to follow.
I hadn't realised what a big hub Manchester had become until recently. -even just taking a peek at FR a moment ago to see the inbound/outbound flights in the air at the moment shows it really is a full on international airport.

UA921 from Heathrow to New York declared an emergency half way across and then quarantined away from the terminal with passengers taken off row by row by the security services. Any idea what happened ?
AviationSource approached United Airlines for a comment regarding UA921 from last night.

It turns out it wasn’t a disruptive passenger, but actually a threat made to the airplane.

In the statement, UA said the following on this:

“United flight 921 from London to Newark landed safely in Newark on Monday after a non-credible threat was found written on a lavatory mirror.”

“Our pilots and law enforcement followed the regular procedure for this type of occurrence, which included having customers deplane a short distance from the terminal.”

“The aircraft will receive a security sweep and we’ll get our connecting customers to their destinations soon.”
