There used to be a regular 747 charter flight from Bournemouth (to NYC, possibly?), I was always told that Bournemouth was pretty tight for a fully loaded 747 take-off, but not sure if that was true or not.

What's the shelf life of the Jet A1 in the tanks? Do they purge them? Are they vented to atmosphere? They must be sealed in flight, otherwise the fuel would be sucked out by the changes in pressure in the climb, but are they vented when they fill them up on the ground to prevent blowback?
Definitely vented on the ground - sometimes you can see fuel being expelled from the vent... Be interested on the flight question.

Actually I would be interested in general how grounded the planes are. Is it just whip the covers off, or have they been more intensively grounded...
It will be fine for a few weeks at least. Depends on the state of the tanks, the fuel is not really the problem. But to the previous comments about the aviation industry on its knees.....we supply to all the major airports and a lot of our orders are on hold. We had some fairly big (££££) ones from very wealthy customers who have now put a hold on everything. Will the need come back in the future, yes. But the issue is will people like us and others be here in the future, is another matter. We have a military contracts keeping us going at the moment.

I had forgotten just how smart the Landor livery looks! Like a crisp well-cut suit. Old money, but the sort of old money that owns half of Wiltshire.

Looks like BA are now storing jumbos at Teruel in Spain. 5 arrived today plus an A320, though I guess the A320 could be a taxi to take the crews back to the UK. Seems to be various Ukranian aircraft there already.

Probably right about the A320 being a taxi back, given the situation in Spain.

I worked 3 of them out. Went up like homesick angels straight to FL390.

Looks like a few BA A380s are heading for Chateauroux in France just now, with the BEA liveried A319 as the taxi back.

Did one of them take it over as cabin baggage, or did they make them check it in?

6 of the 12 stored.
Many people saying that not all of them will come back.

How sad.

Economics and all that, however what a shame.

What’s the finance status on the BA A380’s? They’ve only had them 6.5 years.

Wasn’t long for this world was it the poor A380.

I don't think we'll be seeing many A380's in service after this. The airlines (those that manage to survive this) will be very different in terms of fleet make up in the future.....especially if this virus doesn't go away or constantly mutates.
