was anchored in a cove for the night, wind picked up and dragged the boat onto some rocks. couldnt get the engines started so ripped the whole end off.
the captain phoned the Coastguard and being the middle east they didnt think it was important enough to come out to help. so the owner His Excellency Maqbool Al-Saleh got on the radio himself and they left to help sharpish.
he has a new one now, bit bigger.

Would a drop like that critically damage a boat if it didnt hit the bottom of the channel it was being lifted into?

Yes you would consider that a right of for sure, the water ingres through out the boat would be ridiculous and you would never get it all out plus is will screw the electrics and probably knock the shafts out of alignment etc the list would go on for days of what would require checking and probably changing,
